the funny thing is that it's not like he's playing against a bunch of bums. Bethune-Cookman has won the MEAC conference like 8 of the last 10 years. Their starter today, Hiram Burgos, went 9-1 with a 1.58 ERA last year and is a consensus Top 50 pick for the upcoming draft.

They charged the run as unearned since the catcher freaked it up with the past ball.

make that 4-0.

4-0 lead with SS on the mound = lights out.

Wow, guys, that was amazing. This is like a real freaking Gameday thread. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Great that he struck out 11 guys in under 6, but I don't like he hit 100 pitches so quickly...

For all the hype of the number 1 pick in the draft, I prefer someone who can pitch at least a quality start (even if we use the low standard of 6 IP under 3 ER).   :?

It's his first start. He was definitely a little rusty at times but overall it's a positive outing against a good team.

He supposedly pitches every Friday so it will be pretty cool following him this season all the way up until June when we (most likely) draft him.

Not if he couldn't get through 6 innings.

No sense in wearing him out in his first start. He had reached 103 pitches. He probably could have gone further but Gwynn felt it was a good time to take him out.

At 103 pitches against that level of competition he should've been into the 8th.
