The smart thing is to take Harper #1 and then Strasburg 1A assuming he agrees, since the 1A is not protected. I'm guessing he'd go #3 and they'd take Harper #1 and a safer pick #1A.

I somehow doubt he'd ever agree. All things being equal, why be a national? Our track record with talented pitchers is ugly to say the least (Hill, Chief, Patterson, Zimmermann)

no that'd be stupid the lerners would have to pay strasburg and harper in one summer ... nats owners would never agree to that.

you drafted strasburg this summer, so sign him.

next year, if harper is the best option, draft him and then sign him.

I shudder at what the Harper negotiations are going to be like ... for whatever team ends up with him. He has an incredible amount of leverage.

He can go back to college because of his age, so I imagine he might make more than Strasburg.

He can go back a few times.

He'll be entering the draft the year before he was expected to so 2011 would be his "normal" HS class. 2012 would be his expected freshman year, 2013 his soph year, and 2014 his expected college draft year.

He could also go to a community college, just to muddy the waters even more.

Which is what he's doing. The school he is planning on attending is a JuCo.

He is going to be the straw the breaks the camel's back with regards to the draft as it is currently implemented

I wouldn't mind the draft being changed. The original idea has been so corrupted, it no longer serves it's purpose.
