Oswalt is now wanted by like 12 teams and he has zero competitive fire (he keeps flirting with retirement and suspiciously sucked until he got trade from Houston).  That's a poor signing in my opinion.

Is he better than the current options though?  Yes, by a long shot.

That was because he wanted a 2 year deal but we only offered him a 1 year deal.  Then he went and signed a 1 year deal with Tampa.
That what was reported. Maybe thats what the Nats wanted the fan base to believe.

Gio, Cespedes, Fielder - nothing else is allowed.

We need to organize having us all sitting in the same section for the home opener holding LAC signs and chanting the whole game.

...and for only 1 year! It's not going to be a 16 million deal either.

Perhaps the team should bid on the mythical free agent with zero imperfections?

No free agent signing comes without risk - no free agent is perfect.  Even Pujols had his detractors.

sanity

No one has addressed the logical flaw that the MASN money hasn't changed yet and isn't guaranteed to do so. Or the fact that they could sign Prince and Cespedes.

If they sign no one I will be pissed.

Hell, give him $20m if that's what it takes to get him, just improve the team.

Some of what is being thrown around is not fair. Guys like Balester were given every chance to stick with the club but could never produce at a high enough level to stay in the Majors.

The MASN money is irrelevant at this point.  If you're going to depend on that to spend you might as well get the LAC serial number tattooed on your forehead and have Chief change your username to "LickingMarksSack69".

Why would young players want their team to sign free agents? Free Agents take roster spots, maybe even their roster spot. If I were a young player, I'd see the Nats as an opportunity for playing time, lots of playing time. And they seemed to be a pretty tight knit group that has been improving the last two years.

I think the only thing that players care about on a day to day basis is how much they get to play, it's what I hear them talk about all the time.

Other than Ryan, who has Free Agency on the horizon, why would a player who is under team control for 5 more years (or whatever) care about anything other than playing time?

One serious hole in Boz's argument is that the MASN deal hasn't been rewritten yet. Counting that money as guaranteed is a serious mindfact.

Beyond that, if no one else is signed this offseason, I will be pissed.

It is weird that Boz came out with that article right now.  Maybe Rizzo put him up to it?  Or someone else associated with the team?

Not true...Bally 40 games as a reliever at a 3.81 ERA with 56 innin gs and 62 K's compared to 139 innings that Perry had in Detroit. Now that organization knows how to give a fair shot! Like this year...I hope the give Detwiler his fair shot and start him all year long so he doesn't have to pitch while looking over his shoul;der all the time. .

Probably Rizzo, or someone who Rizzo told to talk to Boz ...would be my guess

Not only that, they seem certain that the money is well on its way and that it will be a nice spike. Also, why should we have to wait for them to add an additional 30 million so they can spend 12 of it.  :?

A week before season ticket renewal packages go out.  Nice timing.
