_______________________________________ ______________

In his last start, Hill pitched five innings while giving up six hits and three
runs for the no-decision. He said the pain in his right forearm is almost gone
and he's expected to make his next start against the Braves. Hill has an 0-2
record with a 4.91 ERA in two previous starts against Atlanta.

Jurrjens has continued to show maturity beyond his 22 years and proven
that he has the stuff to be a successful Major League pitcher. The young
hurler was perfect in five of his six innings against the Mets on Friday and
rebounded from four consecutive third-inning walks to retire each of the
final 10 batters that he faced. He has pitched into the sixth inning of each
of his first five starts.

I'm very worried about Hill:

Quote
Washington Nationals right-hander Shawn Hill is pitching through a persistent ache in his right forearm, and the condition has fundamentally altered the way Hill prepares himself between starts.

Hill, who began the season on the disabled list, has not thrown a bullpen session this season. "We're kind of babying it right now," he said.

Rather than throwing off a mound, which the other Nationals starters do three days before their next outing, Hill has been throwing on flat ground. Most days, his arm is so sore that he does not play "long toss," which is extended catch from 120 or even 150 feet, but instead throws from about 90 feet.

Hill continues to say that the sharpest pain he experienced during spring training has all but subsided, but now he has pain in other areas of the forearm.

"I can deal with it," Hill said. "I'm just kind of waiting on it. By babying it, hopefully it will get better by itself. I'm hoping by mid-May I'll be over this hump. But I'm just kind of throwing that out there. I don't know."

Hill, who will make his third start of the year tonight against the Atlanta Braves, is looking to pitch more than five innings for the first time this season.

I just hope that pain doesn't become a problem. I don't want another pitcher to be as worse as John Patterson.. Hills been making his way there. He hasn't been doing to bad though with this pain in his arm. Could be doing worse.

I like Milledge in the 5th spot.

It's just a matter of time before he is on the DL AGAIN.

I'll be at the game today (my first at the new stadium)  Hopefully they'll keep this good play going today.  Hey...What going on with Nieves?  If the lineup that's posted above stands that's 2 straight starts for Estrada.

Those lineups aren't official. I'm sure Nieves will start today.

I don't mind Mackowiak, but I'd prefer him play for Kearns.

What does Manny have against Nieves?  Makes no damn sense why he gets benched after setting the world on fire last week.  At least play him until he cools down.

I predict Shawn Hill getting lit up for 5 runs in 3 innings, and Jair Jurrjens pitching a fairly decent game. Our bullpen steps up and our offense is better than it has been, but that's not enough. Atlanta 7-5. :(

looks like crybaby mack got his way.

GIVE BELLY A FREAKING START MANNY!!!!

anyways, a win today and a mini sweep of the braves would go a long way towards getting out of the cellar. we'd only be 1.5 games back of the braves.

and i don't like the reports that hill is still feeling significant pain in his forearm

and it is mind boggling that nieves isn't starting. estrada is pitiful at the plate and on defense. he takes the most lazy swings and all of his attempts at throwing runners are out are lame lofting lollipops.

Awesome alliterative attempt, an amusingly appropriate analogy, and absolutely actual as analysis.

...Anyways...

Langerhans crushed a homer for the second day in a row in Columbus.  He's now batting .315 (.450+ OBP) with 3 HRs and 17 RBIs.

And yet we are stuck with guys like Harris and Mackowiak.

langerhans is a career minor leaguer. don't fret, our outfield woes will be cured once dukes gets called up after his rehab assignment.

Why is Estrada and Mackowiak starting?  Pena had his first solid hit of the year last night.  Lets see if he can duplicate it.  Fat Johnny is a total liability.

The Mets are losing 13-1 at home to the Pirates.  Perfect.  The Pirates will be out of runs by the time they arrive in D.C.

He has shown flashes of brilliances but that's it. He's yet to pitch more than 5 innings which is a little concerning.  We need 6-7 innings from him today. If not we will be forced to use the likes of Colome and Hanrahan.

Didn't someone predict that Hill would be back on the DL after 4 starts? If we get to that point we're in trouble because we don't have anyone ready to replace Chico and Hill.

I am here guys. Have a 7-page paper due tomorrow at 9:30 am (still a long ways to go) but I got the Nats and the Wizards games tonight, plus the hangover if the Wizards get eliminated so I'll probably won't get started until 2 am ... :)

I'd just like to point out, in Matt Chico's defense, that he's two years younger than Shawn Hill, a year and a half younger than Joel Hanrahan, and he's even younger than Garrett Mock. The kid was thrown in early and we should be frankly proud that he's been able to do anything for us.
