You guys have a lot of faith in the airlines...I try to keep the number of legs with checked baggage to an absolute minimum.  Plus, long-haul flights have time for like 5 movies or 2 books once you're in the zone.

freak tomorrow, just do it. Carpe diem.  Wifey can get used to curfew in a homeless shelter.
Oh sure, if you got some cash to burn

99L remains a huge blob with a small chance of organizing into a storm, which means it will likely be a Cat5 storm in a few days. :)

I didn't think traffic on Oahu was that bad, but I don't have any previous visits to compare to.  Agree with Ali on the non-stop.  It was a long flight for sure but plenty of onboard entertainment options and I just prefer to get it done all at once.

Its not, compared to DC/NYC/LA. On top of that, you get on the Pali or Kamehameha and even traffic doesnt bother you. Good views.

What sucks is the radio. No decent talk radio, no sports. Just top 40 radio.

Not only that, Hawaiian Top 40 is all ukulele music.

Talk/sports radio (save for actual game broadcasts) might be the only stations that give top 40 a run for its money in the suckitude department.

Is there a hurricane heading towards Hawaii or something?!

two of them actually.  This is going to royally suck for the east end of the big island.

Wouldn't you call that a typhoon or maybe a cyclone?

I'll bet planes with lots of surfboards in the hold are landing in Hilo as we speak.

Our Tallahassee office is closing at noon and closed tomorrow due to Tropical Storm Hermine and I'm a terrible person because I am so jealous that storm is going there and not here and they are getting weather days and we are not :(

Might end up being the first hurricane to hit in years. Looking like it could be a Cat 1 by the eye's landfall.

Cat 1 won't cause a lot of wind damage but the surge could suck if it hits at high tide.

I saw earlier that the NWS was predicting a 5-7' storm surge for about a 150 mile stretch of coast line.   It's now officially a Cat 1 hurricane.  It's a good thing this didn't form up yesterday.

 :phew:

Looks like it wasn't all that bad. Could still drop a ton of rain up the coast, but not sure about this thing getting back to any worrisome wind speeds.

Looks like more a flooding issue--Some areas of NC and SC are going to get lots of rain--if there is that much rain it doesn't take much wind to bring down the trees.  Florida seems to have dodged the bullet.  Probably lots of beach erosion also including VA.

i heard earlier on the radio that there's a good chance it again reaches hurricane strength off the east coast, but it looks like more of a threat to the North East than to the mid-atlantic.

Yup. Still too far out to see what's gonna happen. Could very well become a TS/Hurricane again if it gets out to the Atlantic again, which would be bad for NJ/NY again...

Woken up by the first ever earthquake I've felt. That was bizarre.
