Gameday Thread: Nationals @ Mets, Game 4 (Curly W)
« Topic Start: September 25, 2006, 05:06:51 PM »
Beltran Perez, RHP (1-0, 0.77)..... @ ..... Tom Glavine, LHP (14-6, 3.92)

For the first time in a long time, the Nationals have solid starters in their Minor League system. One of them is already in the big leagues. Right-hander Beltran Perez, arguably the team's best pitcher in the Minors, was outstanding on the mound on Tuesday and helped Washington defeat the Braves, 9-2. He pitched six shutout innings and gave up one hit. He struck out three and walked none. In fact, he retired the last 16 batters he faced. Perez will make his second start of the season on Monday against the Mets.

Glavine completed the eighth inning Tuesday night against the Marlins. That was a 2006 first for him. It came in his 30th start and encouraged the Mets, just as Pedro Martinez's first four innings did two nights later. Facing the Braves doesn't matter, winning won't matter. Preparation for the playoffs is what does matter. But he would be upset if his 31st start didn't produce his 290th victory.

First pitch at 7:10pm EST
