FINALLY...
A REAL Radio station to broadcast Nationals games.

The previous LOUSY radio signal contributed heavily to the LAC (Lerners Are Cheap) perception of the team.

Nationals' Play-by-play radio Charlie Slowes was interviewed on the air on the Mike Wise/Holden Kushner show today.  Asked him about Bryce Harper, who said that he was getting bored in spring training, and wanted to play in games.  Charlie said that Harper always looks outstanding at batting practice.

106.7 The Fan already has a Nationals Promotion -
Escape to Spring Training - CONTEST for a Trip to Florida
:

106.7 The Fan is partnering with VISIT FLORIDA, Southwest Airlines, Coco Key Hotel and Water Resort Orlando and the Florida Sports Foundation to give you an Escape to Spring Training!

Two ways to win:
1) listen to 106.7 The Fan now through March 1st, we’ll be giving away 4 trips on-air!

2) Or, just register to win here, and we’ll pick one web winner:

http://wjfk.listenernetwork.com/asp3/contestdetail.aspx?AID=131475

Then you and THREE guests could be flying down to sunny Florida for a Washington Nationals Spring Training Game!

Plus, on Tuesday March 1, head down to the National Mall from 3-4 PM where the Governor of Florida will be in town spreading a little Sunshine! Find out what Florida has to offer, from the Governor himself.

So, what sort of programming will this be adding, what shows will be carrying segments with players and coaches and such?  Are they podcastable?  Will that weekly show I saw something about be podcasted?

I wonder what the status of Nats Talk Live after the games will be. If it continues, is gone, etc. I always listen to it on the drive home from home games, it's an enjoyable way to wind down after an exciting game.

If it does continue, I just pray Phil Wood is gone gone gone gone gone. He might not be the condescending prick he is on the Interweb, but he's damn close. And one can only put up with stories of how he was best friends with the 1839 Orioles clubhouse attendant. Driving home, listening to a post-game call in show, I want to listen to current baseball stuff. I certainly don't want to listen to ancient history from *another* cities baseball team. And did I mention the condescending attitude? After years of enjoying the show, he nearly ruined it for me to the point of listening to my iPod on the way home. It was heavenly the few games he had a fill-in host, particularly after Dibble got fired and Knight goes to color guy, making Wood his replacement on pre/post game MASN. That was the best part of Dibble getting fired, not having to listen to Wood on the drive home.

Listening to a call-in show while driving home, I like to actually listen to call ins, which you get when it is Byron Kerr/Heist/anybody but Phil. Phil Wood not only bores us with his ramblings about some game that happened in 1963 that reminded him of some inconsequential play in the 4th inning, he does all the talking and barely gets to any actual discussion. That leaves him about enough time to take a call from Gary the admitted former drug dealer who for some reason is almost always the first caller of the post-game show no matter who is doing it.

The press release mentioned two hour-long shows per week devoted to the Nats. Most of the shows on JFK are available as podcasts, so I don't see why it wouldn't be available.

Actually, back in pre-Nats days (basically late 1980's/early 1990's) I used to enjoy listening to him Saturday mornings. since he was one of the few area sports media people to support baseball in DC consistently - I also liked his interest in vintage pop music. Haven't really caught him since the Nats began playing here though.

I think a lot of us are in that boat. As a local baseball historian with decent contacts in the game, he served a need. As a commentator on the games, he's horrible.

I'm with OC and SSB as well.   Twenty or 30 years ago, Wood used to replay old (classic) games on WTOP (I think) and then talk about the games.  He was pretty good.      His past tense knowledge far outshines his ability to analyze what's actually happening on game day now.

I had all but forgotten that they were on 104.1 FM and 1050 AM back in 2005.

I suspect that it will be Byron Kerr, who is now listed as an Anchor recently signed by 106.7 The FAN.

Byron Kerr joins 106.7 after 13 years at WTOP Radio as the Metro Networks Sports Director and sports anchor. He has called George Washington University basketball since 2005 and also was the voice of the George Mason Patriots and WNBA Washington Mystics. Kerr appears as television host on MASN’s Nats Xtra pre- and post-game shows and as a sideline reporter for the Washington Nationals. He blogs on the Nationals prospects, including exclusive interviews with Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper, at MASNSports.com. He has broadcasted Washington Wizards, D.C. United and Westwood One/CBS Radio national college football and basketball games and has hosted the BB&T college basketball Classic on MASN the past three seasons. An Air Force brat, Kerr arrived in the D.C. area in the mid-80s, attending Woodbridge HS and the University of Virginia.

I'd rather it be Heist. After Wood, i'd take anyone, but Kerr isn't stellar. Heist always did an excellent job, and he handled the callers well. Kerr seemed to have some difficulties with the fan interaction, and could be an jerk at times to callers who were furious with the team at the time.

That marks the end of my 106.7 days (at least any part he's associated with).

To do what?

Is Buzz coming back?  :D

He's an improvement on Lavar and Dukes. There was supposed to be a big announcement at 5pm. I'm guessing this is it and Geronimo will be taking over a 5-7 time slot?

No details yet about side kicks, but I would hope that Mike is not included in the deal.
