According to ESPN, they've agreed to a 4 year, 44 million dollar contract, pending a physical.

Just saw it on SC.

Yeah, I saw that. He's decent, but 44M is a lot to lock in for a guy like him. I'd rather homegrow some really cheap quality arms and spend the big bucks on a superstar.

Didn't want to overpay for this guy - his 2006 was abysmal, and the Twins almost released him.

I think the notion of "overpaying" is out the window when it comes to free agents...the market is crazy right now.

Sure, but you can overpay for an ace next year instead of leftovers this year.
