The rule includes long swings but states that it's a judgment call for the umpire. The umpire made a judgment call there and I had no issue with it.

It doesn't include "long swings."  A batter can have any type of swing he wants.  It only covers a swing made while a player is outside the batters box.

What the quoted rule does say is that the folks at MLB really need tomterp - Grammar Nazi because they didn't use the apostrophe for possessive of catcher - it's not plural.

Go get 'em terp.

It was probably how fast it was when hit back.

Those plays are webgems when they work.  Little league instructional video when they don't.

That's true a long swing could be called as interference.  If not, players could purposely slow their follow-through on steal attempts.

The modifier states it this way:

"If a batter strikes at a ball and misses and swings so hard he carries the bat all the way around and, in the umpire’s judgment, unintentionally hits the catcher or the ball in back of him on the backswing before the catcher has securely held the ball, it shall be called a strike only (not interference). The ball will be dead, however, and no runner shall advance on the play."

In my opinion that includes long swings.

That's not a "long swing" it's a follow through.
