So when you going to get one? ;)

Mentioned it to the missus today.    I'm afraid a dog might outlive me.     :old:    I'm still mullin' it over.

Shelter dogs are the best breed.

There is a whole family of skunks living under my building. Should I have a reason to care? They are pretty cute and when they are near the back door I just go around to the front.

Do you have a shelter dog?    Getting a shelter dog can be one of the most bureaucratic and cumbersome exercises you can endure.    I wouldn't be surprised if some places required a background check.

BTW    Doesn't mean it's not a good idea.

This. We looked at this once and realized it would cost more in time and effort than it would to buy a pure bred dog from a breeder.

I have 3 shelter dogs-got them at various times in the last 10 years, cost I think $75 each plus I had to show proof my other dogs had their shots-makes me very sad if your shelters are making it harder to get an unwanted pup than it would be to get a purebred :(

Agree with Ali-my rescue dogs are the best :)

When we were thinking about getting a second whippet we looked at reputable breeders - the level of insanity just wasn't worth it- home inspection, visits with kids and other pets to insure compatibility- a release for our other dog's vet records plus a check?

The people who bring adoptable cats and dogs to Petsmart and Petco seem pretty chill. I was able to adopt a cat from them in about 30 minutes, hardest part was that they only took cash. No home inspections or crazy contracts to sign. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

Only problem with that is a lot of those pets are from puppy mills.  Unlicensed out of state breeders putting dogs through really horrible conditions and taking them to those adoption fairs to sell them.  State of VA is looking at putting an end to that one.

Most rescue groups that I'm aware of have to pay rural high-kill shelters to release dogs & cats before they are put down. Generally a lot more than they ask for as an adoption fee. Ransom I suppose, but also the only source of income for many of these shelters in counties where pretty much everyone is on the dole.

I saw that the PETA shelter in Norfolk has an extraordinarily high kill rate. Apparently, they don't like domestic animals as pets. Slavery or something.  Better to kill them humanely.

Wasn't the commonwealth attorney's office investigating that for animal cruelty?

Ok. Now I remember a couple of weeks ago saying, "gee, I need to upgrade to a smartphone.  Maybe I should get Sprint. Unlimited data, $50, sounds good," after seeing this.

Saw two albino squirrels this morning when I took out the trash.  Hopefully the giant hawks I see down by the lake won't eat them once the snow melts next week.

Sorry, I meant to post this in the TV Commercial thread, but somehow it got posted here.  That's what I get for trying to post on an iPad.

Though it would be fun to see narwhals in the backyard.

They were just pale, long winter where you live.

Nah, these are actual albinos.  You see them in the spring and summer too but they usually get picked off by predators once the snow is gone.
