So that's how you beat Max Scherzer.

Two infield hits, a sac bunt, and an umpire looking the other way.

Hell of a game, Maxie. You deserved better from the Nat's offense, from Lady Luck, and from the damn umpires.

I'm not sure we ever would have scored tonight anyways. Poor offensive performance. I feel bad for Max but he has to get that sac bunt down.  Braves pitching is garbage and we were stymied for 2 games.

That's sadly true.  The chances of this offense scoring another run tonight weren't good so we were going to lose at some point anyway.

jesus.  yet again, this team is pretty much completely ineffective against a rookie pitcher making their debut...

Ray is, rightly, ripping the offense.

MW's back to chewing gum and tugging on his gear.    Seriously, somebody needs to tell Williams, "You do NOT chew gum in an interview."   Try to be professional.

Anyone getting worried we're overusing Max?  Coming into the ninth at 97 pitches?

Max probably threatened to sit Williams on top of a locker unless allowed to pitch.

Maybe Ray should be the hitting coach?  Or manager. Or both.

Nice. Was hoping to get a Boston on in the morning, but weather says otherwise

Seemed odd that Moore played 1B, even after Banuelos, the LH starter, was pulled. Currently (approximate BA):

- Fister, D: .264
- Scherzer, M: .235
- Roark, T: .231
- Moore, T: .208, .650 OPS, over 100 times at bat.

I'd rather have Robinson at 1B until Zimmerman returns, whenever that might be. De Dekker as 4th OF. Yes, Werth to 1B whenever...

With the amount and for the number of years the Nats are paying him, you have to hope the long outings don't shorten his career, workhorse or not.

Precisely.  The problem is years, four, five, six and seven.

The team doesn't get bonus wins for a starter who throws a complete game.  It's incredibly imprudent for your ace to be throwing this many innings already in a season where you expect to make the playoffs.  Unfortunately, I'm sure Williams doesn't understand the innings arithmetic.

I don't think worry is the right word.  I'd like to see a reliever after 7 innings (except for no-hitter events) because the reliever is fresh.

Agreed. If only the Nats had reliable pitchers for the 8th and 9th innings...
