Looks like just back spasms for Detwiler, sounds like he'll be fine.  Davey not optimistic on Ramos, sounds like another 15 day stint is likely.

With Ramos going on the DL, might as well put the flower on the list too.

I wonder if these hamstring issues are a result of rehabbing the knee. I'll bet you do a lot of knee extension, which build the front part of the leg, but I can't imagine you do a lot of hamstring work. Maybe it leaves you "out of balance" (I know that's not the best description).

I don't remember which knee he injured, or if his bad hammy is in the same leg.

It does beg the question if these muscle strains and pulls over the past two seasons is the result of lack of flexibility or some other breakdown of the conditioning program.  I really don't know.  It would be interesting to know if we have more players spend time on the DL due to muscle pulls than the average MLB team.  It seems like it though.

I think it's pretty normal for catchers to have hamstring and knee issues. Just constantly being in the squat will tighten them up and then they attempt to sprint. And it's not like they heal all the way in 15 days. Can take over a month.

Maybe lack of conditioning, but again, that's probably a pretty common injury in baseball. I just think most ignore it or treat it and play through the pain so as not to lose their jobs.

Some of it may have to do with diet, specifically hydration.  there was a piece in the Post (well, in the Express, but I assume it was a shortened post article) discussing Werth's hammy.  He tied his issues back to having a virus and getting dehydrated (sounds like stomach bug). I could easily see more than one player getting the same bug and having similar issues.

Baseball is such a rotational sport that oblique strains should be expected,, especially now that players are training harder/getting bigger and therefore exerting more torsional force.

Didn't Ramos report to camp in great shape? IIRC that is what I read.

Right knee, left hammy, same hammy as his DL stint this season.

Ramos will fly back to Washington to receive an MRI on his hamstring. He had felt great until last night and couldn’t pinpoint why he had strained the same hamstring twice. He posited that he had put too much pressure on his left leg as he recovered this winter from surgery to repair a torn right ACL and meniscus.

“Especially these two weeks, I was working a lot with my hamstring getting it more stronger,” Ramos said. “I don’t know what happened. I was feeling very good yesterday before the game. I don’t know. Maybe because I hurt the other leg when I got surgery last year, I put more pressure on this leg? Tried to keep the pressure even, but, unlucky.”

Detwiler's MRI shows an irregularity in his back.  Going for more tests.   Chris young come on down!

From CBS:

Quote
MRI shows 'irregularity' in Ross Detwiler's back

Nationals starting pitcher Ross Detwiler had an MRI on his back Thursday that appeared to show an "irregularity", according to Nationals manager Davey Johnson.  The team is sending him to have another MRI Friday with a specialist, as the image was ultimately inconclusive.

The team expects to take a broader look at Detwiler's back in the second MRI, with the hopes of getting a better idea of his status moving forward.

Detwiler is doubtful for his next start, Monday in San Francisco.

Werth to DL. Zim to OF. Call up Rendon.

Also  Espinosa to  DL for surgery. Call up Kobernus.

The one thing this team can't afford to loose is starting pitching. Chris Young is throwing BP in AAA (7.96 era), there is no way he gets any starts in the majors. Rosenbaum is the only aaa starter with numbers approaching decent, but he's not on the 40 man

Move Stammen into the rotation, call up Erik Davis and send Nathan Karns to Syracuse.

i saw an article (Zuck I think?) that said the agreement we had with Young says that he gets the first call up when we need a starter.  I'd give him a shot, there are lots of times when players under-perform in AAA because they are bored.
