for Christmas, my Uncle got a bottle of Mount Gay XO Rum, which from what I was told, comes from Barbados and is not sold in the United States.

He hasn't opened it yet though, so I didn't get to try it. I've been chugging shots of Grand Marnier all day. not consecutively though, i took a shot like every 3 hours or so because i don't like getting drunk drunk in front of my daughter.

also had a glass of some really good white wine called Terrapin White. It's from a local winery in Mt. Airy(spelling?) called Linganore.

Also tried some nasty ass Argentinian red wine called Malbec. ugh.
http://www.linganore-wine.com/

The tour/tasting is really fun (I thought so anyway :glug: )

I love the fact that they make mead.  I wish I had an actual horn from which to drink it while listening to some Manowar and the like.

Careful with that kind of talk :nono:

Malbec is really, really good.

Agreed, Malbec is very good.

For people who are not accustomed to tasting wines, (and I'm no expert) one has to be careful on how the wine is tasted before drawing conclusions.  Some foods really clash with wines, and ruin the taste.  For example, salt is bad.  Salty peanuts would be a terrible thing to have in your mouth upon tasting wine.  Also, beer or other spirits on the palate can also color your taste of the wine.  Toothpaste residual flavor is another kiss of death.

That's why many people serve cheese and crackers with wine, the flavors are complimentary and the cheeses tend to stamp out bad clashing flavors.

Back to South America, in addition to Malbec varietals, I've also become very fond of another obscure one, Carmenere.  Here's a comparison between the two:  http://awinestory.com/2009/03/carmenere-vs-malbec-comparing-the-two-varietals.html

Here's one of my current favorites, about $12 at Total Wine.  Jammed with flavor:

I don't remember the wine's name, but whenever I make Drunken Chicken, which calls for a bottle of strong red wine, I always ask for the cheapest Chilean red I can get. Perfect for cooking/baking food. I would drink a glass or so while making it, but really couldn't get past that...too much resin.

I bought my wife some blueberry vodka to make a drink called a "Siberian Husky" right before she got pregnant. She hadn't touched it, of course, so we cracked it open to today. You can drink it neat. Not so manly, but it's really smooth.

It is impossible to believe that there exists a more macho drink than blueberry vodka...Tom Selleck with his creme de menthe can eat his heart out

The bottle is decorated with half-naked babes, machine guns, and steroid needles.

Right.  Closer to home is better, regardless of where you live.

Stick with one bartender at McFadden's; more free drinks that way. If you buy the bartender drinks, they tend to come back to you twofold. Also if you do actually like it there, register for their free happy hour. They give it away surprisingly often.

Personally I avoid that place unless everyone else wants to go there. It is a loud, grab ass kind of place like was mentioned earlier.

Mobbed, loud, drunk & stupid, probable you get your ass grabbed, might even get puked on and guaranteed to stumble out with a tab more expensive then you expected.

That sounds like pretty much all bars to me.
