Or, you know, we could get a lead and let our pitching do the rest.

This isn't hockey or basketball. There is no momentum in baseball. Teams make defensive substitutions all the time. It's part of the game. Especially in the NL

How many teams, NL or AL, make defensive substitutions before the 8th inning?

This isn't hockey or basketball.

But you're suggestion a strategy that Dale Hunter or Dean Smith would favor.

I would argue that Ankiel and Espinosa are defensive substitutions and we start the game with them

There's certainly a role for defensive substitutions, when the defensive specialist is unlikely to bat again or the ratio of innings in the field to PA's weights towards emphasizing fielder skills.  But unlike in hockey or basketball, substitutions are irrevocable.

Miami has a retractable roof so it doesn't matter.

I think DPM had it right.  Chomping, bit = horse references.

Interesting.  Anecdotal of course, but everyone I've ever heard say it clearly says "chomping", so I'm guessing it's a common misconception.  I doubt going around correcting people would win me any friends, though, so I'm just going to continue saying "chomping" anyway ;)

Since Morse is a Beast and not a horse, why don't we compound the flub and say he's "chomping at the bat"? :mg:

Lorb says Morse could be back on Friday.  if the pattern continues, LaRoche goes on the DL on Monday.

I was there.  The opposing pitcher threw a pitch very high and inside, and everyone was yelling at him like "what the hell jerk, DO NOT hurt him"
