I like Davey's reasoning. Leave the guy in - it's only the 6th and he just got a big double play. You can't always be right. By the way he just made the move and Mattheus promptly issued a walk.
If he'd made the move when most of us thought he should and he issued a leadoff walk, we'd still be 2-2 with a single runner on base.

some of us believe you cannot automatically go to the pen after 5 innings and 85 pitches and the first sign of trouble in a 2-2 game.
After he gave up back-to-back hits to the 7 and 8 hitters he should have been gone.

Jesus Christ, this thread is seriously 100% non-stop

(Image removed from quote.)

This was a winnable game that we're on the verge of losing.    That's more than enough to cry about.

Not many teams turn that DP. Lannan is so lucky to only give up 3 tonight.

Lannan didn't "get" that DP by any stretch of the imagination.  Zimm, Espinosa and Morse did.

I can understand leaving Lannan in after that double play.  What I can't understand is DH'ing Stairs.  My opinion of him immediately went downward as soon as I saw the lineup, unfortunately.

I agree with that. And I said that, once a runner got into scoring position it was time to take him out.

Yup, a game that we should be leading or at the worst, tied.

If it were "the first sign of trouble" and Lannan hadn't looked absolutely terrible all night, there might be some merit to this reasoning.  But Lannan had been extremely lucky to that point not to have any runs score, and pretty much everyone here assumed the wheels were about to fall off.

Call me crazy, but I really feel like we are in the race this year. Every game, especially these game one's on road trips feel important.

The Nats have had everything go right in these 6 innings and still trail 3-2. I'd hate to see what this team will look like when their luck runs out.

That ball was a liner scorched to the gap for what should've been a base hit, and instead turned into two outs.  I'm afraid I can't credit Lannan with that one.
Lannan is always lucky.
Except for last year, I guess.

For all the chaos on these pages we're only down 1 run with a fresh 'pen after 6. Good managing by Davey. We will win this game.

The fact that they are still in this game shows the difference.

Is Davey Johnson incapable of sensing when a pitcher might be in trouble?  It was clear Lannan was in trouble.  Why couldn't he see it?

Nats should sign Dave Henderson in the 8th.
