if we don't sign laroche, we have a need for an outfielder.

ken rosenthal tweets
Source: #Nationals acquire Denard Span from #Twins for Alex Meyer. Possible that others are involved.

Kilgore/Comak/Zuck confirm.

Kilgore:
From people with knowledge: The Nats and Twins are working on a trade involving top pitching prospect Alex Meyer, possibly for Denard Span.

I'll start a new thread?

I agree with Tyler.

I think Rizzo is focusing on a trade.  I wouldn't be surprised if Span is the guy in CF this year.

18 minutes and 36 seconds. You shoulda predicted winning the Powerball yesterday.

ahem, way back on page 90 I posted:

given rizzo's history, i'd bet we trade for someone versus sign Bourn anyway.

I guess this means LaRoche is gone.

Amanda Comak ‏@acomak
#Nats GM Mike Rizzo said the team is still in contract negotiations with Adam LaRoche. The Span trade "gives us some options."

Also, Span is signed through 2015 for a total of 21M.  Perfect fit for Goodwin if he is ready.

I wouldn't be surprised if Morse is traded and we keep ALR.

Span
Harper
Zim
ALR
Werth
Desmond
Espi
Ramos/Suzuki

I was just going to say. Keeping LaRoche and then trading Morse for a bullpen arm makes a lot of sense.

I was thinking it'd be getting crowded at 1B if LaRoche was signed back on. I'd be OK with trading Morse if LaRoche does stay and getting something good for him.

So, does Rizzo now go all in on Greinke?  Not sure we can outbid the Dodgers but I think we have the better team and Greinke has proven that he's not all about the cash.

If the numbers are close would he choose us over the Dodgers?

Brandon McCarthy for me.

- re-sign LaRoche
- sign Brandon McCarthy
- sign a lefty reliever

done.

Please do - this looks like more than WNFF speculating so should be out of this thread.

I don't like McCarthy's home road splits.  He was a much better pitcher in Oakland.  Maybe he could pull a Gio and still pitch well here.  He doesn't fit the Rizzo mold of a power righty though.  Pitches mostly between 88-92

sign laroche, trade morse, sign greinke and we're WS favorites (but we still need another good bullpen arm).

Wade Davis would work for me if Tampa is interested. McGee is still pre-arb, so I doubt that he'll get dealt. Davis, on the other hand, will be making $4 million in 2014, so he's not likely to be in Tampa's long term plans anyway.

What would it take to get a starter of theirs?  Would Morse/Espi/Goodwin/Karns be enough for Matt Moore or James Shields?

Best thing ever.

Re-sign LaRoche for 3 years.

Trade Morse to TBR for McGee.  Rays get a still in his prime legit 1B and Nats get a somewhat young arm for the pen.

Use all the monies for Greinke.  Get stupid big TV deal for leftover monies for Stras, Zimm, Harper and anyone else who still requires long term contracts.

Sign a lefty reliever.

Win 120 games and sweep WS in 4 games.
