Gameday Thread: Nationals @ Rockies, Game 1
« Topic Start: August 12, 2005, 03:45:33 PM »
Game Time: 9:05 PM

Esteban Loaiza, RHP (6-8, 3.63)
Loaiza will face the Rockies for the 10th time in his career. He is 3-2 with a 6.27 ERA against them. In his last start, it looked like Loaiza had a solid outing against the Padres, but manager Frank Robinson was not pleased that Loaiza gave up big base hits to a pitcher and two position players who do not play on a regular basis. The Padres blanked the Nationals, 3-0.

Jamey Wright, RHP (6-12, 5.85)
Wright has displayed inconsistency throughout the season. But things could become better if he can figure out what to do about the first inning, when opponents bat .383 against him.

Starting Lineups:
Code: [Select]
  Washington             Colorado
1. Brandon Watson, LF     Larry Bigbie, CF
2. Jose Vidro, 2B         Luis A. Gonzalez, 2B
3. Nick Johnson, 1B       Todd Helton, 1B
4. Jose Guillen, RF       Matt Holliday, LF
5. Vinny Castilla, 3B     Jorge Piedra, RF
6. Brian Schneider, C     Garrett Atkins, 3B
7. Preston Wilson, CF     J.D. Closser, C
8. Cristian Guzman, SS    Omar Quintanilla, SS
9. Esteban Loaiza, P      Jamey Wright, P

Frank Robinson doesn't know squat when it comes to managing... I have a sad feeling Watson will sit again tonight because it would be embarrassing to sit Wilson after trading Day to the Rockies for him. Unless Guillen aggravated his should last night and sits, Watson rides the pine.

C'mon Ken, there's not another manager in baseball who would have thought to bat Wilkerson 3rd, and Johnson 6th. :?

One of the few Friday night games not on tv.  Any excuse for this?  Does 20 have a stupid comedy debut?

GUUUZ is inexcusable, but I do want to see Preston Wilson hitting in Coors Field.  After all, if he's just a "Coors hitter" then it sure makes sense to start him when you're there.

Nice going Brandon Watson, Jose Vidro, and Nick Johnson!  1-2-3, nobody out, and it's 1-0.

I'm sorry, Guillen is a frickin' moron for playing.  Somebody needs to tell this guy he's not doing us any favors.

(just watch, he'll go yard right after I hit 'submit')

edit: Off by a bit.  A 2-RBI single!  3-0, and I guess even a crippled Guillen can hit off of these pathetic mooks in Coors.

Now let's see if Preston Wilson and Vinny Castilla can.

I like 1 - 3, but would put Schneider 4th the way he's been hitting.  Everybody likes to alternate righty/lefty, so okay, put Schneider 5th.  He's the only hot hitter we have.

Nick's not hitting but he's still walking, everybody's pitching around him.

Excellent.  Now it would be nice to see if they could do this against other teams.

Where is everybody? Wouldn't it be nice to score some runs and for once put away a W early in the game. Is it too much to ask for?

Yeah jeez c'mon guys, don't tell me after back-to-back days of record-breaking WNFF.net traffic that everyone's decided to give up on the Nats now that they're playing potentially the easiest series of the year?  Let's see some enthusiasm! :D
