The Jeter choice is just smh.  I bet the Buehrle choice was based on that one awesome play he made on like the third day of the season too.

Amazing how Teixeira, Cano and Jeter can all have horrible range, bad UZR, but high FP and the hacks vote for them despite their being a bad defensive infield.

It almost makes me think Polanco is taking the NL GG award... but I don't think the voters are that stupid.  Or at least I hope they aren't.

Teixeira lost to Barton by 15 points of UZR (12.1 to -2.9) and he still took home the award.

Because Teixeira has a great defensive reputation.  Fortunately for us, so does Zimmerman.  Winning the year before always helps, too.

UZR I don't think is the be all and end all for judging first basemen.  It admittedly let's out things like stretches.  Really a combo of stats like defenisve runs saved and total zone, etc... should be looked at when judging the "sabremetric" evaluation of D.

For comparison, Tex finished 4th in the Fielding Bible, #2 in the AL (a good ways behind Barton).  He did get a bump from Tango's Fan poll, which might reflect NY bias, but it did not help Cano.

Silver slugger awards coming in now...
AL 1B - Miguel Cabrera (pretty reasonable choice)
NL 1B - Albert Pujols (wow Joey Votto got snubbed hard)
AL 2B - Robinson Cano (obvious choice)
NL 2B - Dan Uggla (understandable with Utley's off year)
AL SS - Derek Jeter (whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat UPSET)
NL SS - Troy Tulowitzki (good choice)
AL C - Joe Mauer (yup)
NL C - Brian McCann (yup)

He probably deserved it. The NL has all of the good shortstops.

I imagine if Jeter hadn't had an atrocious offensive year by any standards (except literally counting "runs scored", anyway) he would have continued his streak.

AL 3B - Adrian Beltre (deserved)
NL 3B - Ryan Zimmerman (Wright got snubbed massively)

By VORP -
Zimmerman - 53.5
Wright - 46.7,

Wright had 67 more PA's, but still fell short of Zimmerman's production by this measure.

Sorry, but they were fairly close, I had to research to confirm my suspicion.

By wOBA it wasn't particularly close - .389 for Zimm vs. .364 for Wright.  Not that the voters care about wOBA; they probably looked at Zimm, saw that he had an over .300 average and only a few fewer HRs than Wright, saw that Wright struck out a ton, and said, "eh, what the hell, let's vote for him again this year."

More:

AL OF: Josh Hamilton, José Bautista, Carl Crawford (all solid choices)
NL OF: Carlos Gonzalez, Ryan Braun, Matt Holliday (the same)
AL DH: Vladimir Guerrero (yup)
NL P: Yovani Gallardo (I have absolutely no idea)

Biggest surprise: no Phillies and only one Yankee.

Adam Dunn named one of the "best of the rest" of the hitters that weren't named a Silver Slugger.

Nope.  David Ortiz had a higher OBP, SLG, wOBA (of course), a much higher ISO (lower BA).

Vladi - 643 PAs, .300 / .345 / .496, 29 HR, 115 RBI
Ortiz - 606 PAs, .270 / .370 / .549, 32 HR, 102 RBI

.020 wOBA difference (.380 v. .360).

For fun, compare Dunn - 648 PAs, .260 / .356 / .536, 38 HR, 103 RBI, .379 wOBA

Ortiz haters = Dunn haters ;)

Actually... you will never believe the DH with the highest wRC+.

It is (and I am not making this up) Luke Scott.

I can believe it.  I remember he was putting up ridiculous numbers (at least I think) when the Orioles came into town.
