Amazing how Teixeira, Cano and Jeter can all have horrible range, bad UZR, but high FP and the hacks vote for them despite their being a bad defensive infield.

It almost makes me think Polanco is taking the NL GG award... but I don't think the voters are that stupid.  Or at least I hope they aren't.

Teixeira lost to Barton by 15 points of UZR (12.1 to -2.9) and he still took home the award.

Because Teixeira has a great defensive reputation.  Fortunately for us, so does Zimmerman.  Winning the year before always helps, too.

UZR I don't think is the be all and end all for judging first basemen.  It admittedly let's out things like stretches.  Really a combo of stats like defenisve runs saved and total zone, etc... should be looked at when judging the "sabremetric" evaluation of D.

For comparison, Tex finished 4th in the Fielding Bible, #2 in the AL (a good ways behind Barton).  He did get a bump from Tango's Fan poll, which might reflect NY bias, but it did not help Cano.

Sorry, but they were fairly close, I had to research to confirm my suspicion.

By wOBA it wasn't particularly close - .389 for Zimm vs. .364 for Wright.  Not that the voters care about wOBA; they probably looked at Zimm, saw that he had an over .300 average and only a few fewer HRs than Wright, saw that Wright struck out a ton, and said, "eh, what the hell, let's vote for him again this year."

Nope.  David Ortiz had a higher OBP, SLG, wOBA (of course), a much higher ISO (lower BA). 

Vladi - 643 PAs, .300 / .345 / .496, 29 HR, 115 RBI
Ortiz - 606 PAs, .270 / .370 / .549, 32 HR, 102 RBI

.020 wOBA difference (.380 v. .360). 

For fun, compare Dunn - 648 PAs, .260 / .356 / .536, 38 HR, 103 RBI, .379 wOBA
