Okay guys I think I've figure it out. I took Zimmerman in fantasy this year and he has sucked every time he is in my lineup. I benched him while he was slumping and he has a little mini resurgence capping with a two hit, one home run game. So I put him back in figuring he is coming out of it and he starts sucking again. I benched him again and since then he has had his two hit game and last nights double.

Zim doesn't hit if he is in my starting lineup...

I'm not surprised that Zimm is playing through pain. He's a gamer and a team-first guy.

What I am surprised a bout is how dumb he is being about this. He admits that he cannot get around on fastballs. And it seems like his plate approach is just to keep trying to get around on fastballs. Hey Ryan, how about making some kind of adjustment and just trying to slash a few doubles into the gaps, singles up the middle and when you run into one, great. But to keep trying to pull a pitch you cannot get around on? That's maddening.

It's insanity.

I think it is being a "gamer", being too tough for the team's good (probably), and maybe a little of having played for a series of some of the worst ever to be called "major league baseball teams".

Zimmerman goes yard again. He loves this place. Amazing how quick it turned for him after the cortisone injection: 7 for 14, 2 HR, 2 2B.

Those updated post-cortisone-shot totals for Ryan Zimmerman: 8-for-16, two homers, three doubles, six RBI.

FYI (not counting tonight)
- Zimmerman is 3rd on the team in runs with 32 (Desmond/Harper tied at 35)
- 5th with hits at 54
- 4th in doubles
- 3rd in RBIs with 25

Even in a down year, he's still contributing, and tonight he's added a HR, 2 hits, 3 RBIs, a double, and a run.  And it's only the 5th inning.

He's obviously on a roll, but it's Coors Field. Let's keep things in perspective.

I don't buy its Coors. No, take that back, there's no way its Coors. Before the shot he was hitting weak infielders grounders or short pop flies. Now his balls have strength and timing behind them. Before it's like he hurt and wasn't swinging at full power and was slowing his swing down because of the pain, resulting in a lot of fouled off pitches. Now hes swinging on time, hitting balls more for line drives than pops or flies. Coors might make the balls go a bit further, but none of this massive change is directly and solely attributable to Coors. It's all the latest PED cortisone, baby! Ban the cheater Zimmerman!

Doesn't the humidor essentially offset the distance advantage of the thin air?

Humidor of course does not reduce the size of the outfield acreage, nor enhance breaking balls, so there are still good reasons why runs scored should be higher than typical but home runs shouldn't be extremely high, right?

Here's a Denver Post article on 2012 run scoring at Coors and the humidor, basically attributing the result to bad pitching by the Rockies' staff.

http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_20843984/sports

Quote
"From 2009 leading up to this year, there was a lot of normalcy," manager Jim Tracy told The Denver Post. "There were 5-3, 4-2 games. This year, I can't explain it. It's just different."

The easy answer is that the Rockies' rotation stinks. And while statistically that's true — the starters' ERA sits at 6.27 for the season — it doesn't reconcile the overall data. The Rockies entered Tuesday with a 5.75 ERA at home. Terrible, but better than their opponents' 5.84 mark.

Yes, foes have been worse in Denver than the Rockies.

So it's not just that the Rockies are featuring a volatile blend of kids and a veteran in Jeremy Guthrie, who spent Wednesday tipping his cap and dissolving before everyone's eyes.

Only select left-handers Barry Zito and C.J. Wilson and the Mariners' staff have survived.

Before you ask, the humidor still works. A call to Major League Baseball on Tuesday confirmed that nothing has changed on the protocols or the reports that the Rockies provide weekly. The humidor is on, but the numbers are off the charts, with teams partying here like it's 1999.

The Rockies are rolling out some historically bad pitchers this season. We'll see if the offensive fireworks continue once we're not facing BP fastballs in Atlanta and next week against the Giants.
