I've been patient with this team but if we don't draft Strasburg I'm going to be furious. I will jump on the LAC bandwagon and protest outside of Nats Park.

Am I the only one that hates when someone says that Boras will wait for another team to come up with the big bucks?
They have no understanding of how the draft works.

One wonders how professional writers can have such a glaring lack of understanding of their assigned subject matter.

If it were an option to make a selection before the draft starts, I think they would have with him.  Everyone's just biding their time.

Both Bowden and Kasten said nothing whatsoever at Fanfest that would lead one to conclude they have any intention of drafting anyone else besides Strasburg with #1.  The were effusive in praise for his talent and ability to anchor a rotation.

Can't we agree on a deal before the draft? Haven't they done that in the past? That way we don't have to go through weeks of hearing how we are not going to sign him?

Maybe we could deal the pick to the Dodgers in return for Juan Pierre?

Maybe we can trade to the Giants for Barry Zito?

I wonder if Kasten who could approach Boras since techincally he's not Strasburg's agent (thanks NCAA), and negotiate a deal should Strasburg become his client pending physical. You wouldn't be negotiating with an amateur since as a college athelete he doesn't have a agent. I doubt Boras would do it because the signing deadline is his leverage

Yeah, that would work too.   Like that poster who used to be here, spidersomethingoranother used to say, a prospect is someone who hasn't done jack s#$@, gimme that proven veteran.

If my calculations are correct, Stephen Strasburg's BABIP is either .429 or .444, which is a good thing since that indicates that Strasburg has bad luck when the balls are in play (the rare times they are).

WOW, that is great news!  He could be even better, then!

Barry from the NJ talking about a guy he sees at Space Coast Stadium today:

Quote
There is a dude wearing a Nationals T-shirt in the front row at HSCS today. Not strange, until you consider that the back of it says, across the shoulder blades, "Strasburg."

 It's tempting, but I'm waaaaay too superstitious to do that.

I'd do it right after we drafted and signed the kid.

I'm not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing. I know that in the big leagues, a .300 BABIP is considered average, but it's possible that the average in college is .350 or .400 or even more with worse defenses, harder hit balls, and worse pitching.

I'll go beyond that and say that I'll lose most of my interest in this team if they don't sign that top pick.

I concur. If they don't care about the Nats, why should I?

They can do that in the 10th slot.  not at 1.  Actually, I don't think they should do it with the 10th slot either.

His fielders are probably saying "I'm on some mediocre team with a hall of fame coach.  I went to this college for the beach, and then this fat kid shows up, drops weight, and pitches like Walter Johnson.  What are all those guys with the cop cameras behind home plate doing?  I just see them shaking their heads.  Wake up, a ball is coming my way!  I completely forgot what I'm supposed to do now."

Agreed. This is silliness.
