"He is a good-looking young pitcher," Williams said. "He has got three pitches he throws over the plate for strikes. He has a fastball, curveball and changeup."Nineteen-year old Estevez is in extended spring training in Florida and will probably be assigned to Short-Season Single-A Auburn, which begins play June 17. Former Potomac Nationals manager Gary Cathcart will manage Auburn.
Estevez pitched well tonight 7 ip 3 er 3 k's...His ERA isn't pretty but I like his K numbers and he's doing well for a 20 year old at that level.
The 6-foot-1, 170-lb. prospect has his velocity up between 87 to 93 mph on his fastball, and hit 88 to 92 mph in his first start.Nationals Director of Player Development Doug Harris saw Estevez throw Thursday and came away impressed."He has an above-average changeup and a developing breaking ball," Harris said. "He is a fearless kid. He throws strikes and has really nice instincts."
