Links
« Topic Start: November 05, 2009, 04:35:21 PM »
curious if it's possible to get some way to indicate links when they are imbedded into text.  Links seem to get lost a lot with out that right now and, IMO, posting the whole url is gets to look a bit cluttery.  I've seen a lot of other boards where they just underline the text.  Don't need to turn it blue or anything, but something like having it underlined would be a lot cleaner, IMO.

Yeah, I disabled the link underlining forever ago, and I really can't remember why anymore, because I completely agree with you that it makes links too ambiguous.  I'll see if I can't fix it this evening.

I never knew a short cut to doing it.  I find something good, I click in the address area, copy and paste.  If you guys figure a shorter way to name it or whatever, let me know.

It's not a short cut.  But when you insert the
Code: [Select]
[url][/url] code you can insert an = sign
Code: [Select]
[url=][/url] and instead of displaying the long, ugly looking url, you'll just see the text.  For example NFA could link to a story on his site instead of pimping his sory about Drew Storen like this:

Hey check out my story on Drew Storen.
http://natsfarm.com/

He could just do this instead:
Hey check out my story on Drew Storen.

But right now, you wouldn't have anything indicating that text contains a link.  Instead, it could look like this:
Hey check out my story on Drew Storen.

NatsAddict always does that and makes the links blue. It's the little thing that make a post look professional.

I actually think it looks better if they are blued instead of underlined, if that's possible.

Either way, so long as we can find it easily rather than not having to post the whole link.

I like seeing the exact entire link knowing what I am going to click on before I click on it.

Put the mouse over the link and look at the bottom of the screen.

I can do that, if it's everyone's preference.

I think blue makes it stand out as a link a little better than just black underlined text.

That works.  Just something that makes it stand out from the plain text.

Can we sticky this thread so I can refer back to it later?

I don't think that's necessary considering the minimal thread activity in this section, but I can add a reference to it in the first post of the board troubles thread if you like.

So links in posts use the same style as every other link on the forum, which means I can't just change the link color like I thought I could (it would also change the color of pretty much all text...  usernames, section titles, etc.)  This can be remedied, but it's going to be a matter of just how much work it requires...

Yeah, just a quicker way than searching on the word "Links".  Can  you imagine how many threads would come up that way!

Do you need it to remember how to make links?  You could bookmark it.

Or maybe someone (I'd do it when I get a chance if so) coulld make a main "how to use the forum thread" with the different ways to use the tags that could be a sticky?
