I'm thinking the organization would not do this. OP has always had a me-first attitude. I bet their entire approach is "you're a minor leaguer, Ollie. Get used to it. We're in charge. You're meat."

There's got to be room for some serious reporting there, on what he's been doing in Florida, what fixes they've tried to make, where he sits on the radar gun now, all that stuff. I'd really like to read a big fat article about the rebuilding of Oliver Perez.

Might as well bump this now. He's been assigned to AA Harrisburg, where I'm assuming he joins Peacock, Tatusko, and Shairon Martis in the rotation.

Tatusko to the pen

Makes a better story if he can come back, though.

Adam Kilbert:

Quote
Oliver Perez was set to make his first appearance in a minor league game, but Class AA Harrisburg was rained out. The Nationals signed Perez after the Mets released him this spring training, and the Mets owe him $12 million this season. Rizzo said Perez’s velocity has improved from the low-80s to the mid-to-high 80s.

“He’s had flashes of having some good major league stuff,” Rizzo said. “And then he’ll relapse into having just OK stuff. We want to see consistency of holding his delivery together, consistency of his command, consistency of his velocity.”

Wouldnt it be terrific if Perez came back just for a few starts and one of those starts was against the Mets and he got the win.  That would be a proud day to be a nats fan.

1 hit and 1 unearned run in 5 innings tonight in his debut at AA.

here's video of him in his debut ... looks like his windup/delivery is a bit adjusted.

Wow, sweet, sweet baserunning by Archie Gilbert and Steve Lombardozzi, who steals home from second on a throwing error [<-go back and watch THAT, Linty]... Ollie was drawing a lot of fly balls but they were awkwardly hit.

I almost forgot about Perez until he was the starter at the game I attended in Harrisburg tonight.. His fastest pitch was 86mph, he went 5.1 and gave up no runs and three hits. Couple of wild pitches and hit a batter. I'm not a scout by any means, but what happened to him? Can a bummed knee really take 11mph off a pitch? Can we expect him to ever play a game as a National?

Not sure how fast he was throwing as a Met at the end of his stay in NY.

The Nats were working on his mechanics, which could lead to less velocity if he changed his arm slot. Or, he could be working on specifics with his motion in these minor league starts and under instruction to not worry about velocity.

Furthermore, a bad knee can cut the speed. If he pushes from it, the knee is part of the pitcher's power. Look at video of Tom Seaver: entire motion is low, and he drives with his right leg. If it's his off-side knee, it will hurt every time he lands and twists into a fielding position. The extra step that made Harvey Haddix famous as a great-fielding pitcher..."The Kitten". (Harvey Who? The Cards/Pirates who pitched the 12-inning perfect game only to lose PG, shutout, and game in the 13th.)

I know we aren't paying for this bum anything but that we're even giving him a look is hilarious and pathetic.

Oliver Perez is and will always be a bum.  He, Maya and Wang are why this organization are a total joke.

This site says he was put on the DL.  What happened to him?  I was hopeful he could possibly take Slaten's place as the LOOGY.
