Wainwright ended a stellar July with his fourth win and quality start of the month, but wasn't pleased with his outing against the Pirates on Tuesday. He gave up eight hits and a walk in six innings and was constantly working out of jams. He blamed a combination of an inconsistent delivery and below-par stuff for his struggles on the day. He, along with La Russa, was encouraged by the fact that he made few mistakes with runners in scoring position and gave up just two runs despite the high number of baserunners.

Chico provided the Nationals with a short but solid outing last Tuesday against the Reds. He pitched five innings, and allowed a runner in scoring position in every inning. However, he fought his way out of jams and finished with just two runs allowed on nine hits. He's the only Nationals pitcher who hasn't missed a start this season.

Has LaRussa gone off the deep end?  Can someone explain to me any sort of logic behind the pitcher batting eighth?  And also, LaRussa has drastically changed the lineup for each game of the series.

By the way, this is my ideal/favorite lineup. Everything is the same with the exception of Flores catching. No Batista, Rob, D-Lo. I like it.

I hope this one is as good as last nights. I went to the game with my son and it was maybe the most enjoyable three hours I've ever spent with him. One of those memory makers - it'll last a lifetime for me.

Walked up for tickets and asked for something in the first row of the 510-515 section (on the first base side) so we could see into the dugout. These are great seats - in the first row - in terms of value, field visibility, and people watching ability. He's old enough to like to look at the girls...

That's awesome, good to spend some quality time with your kids, especially as you get older.  How old is your son?

13. Plays U14 travel baseball. Has become a real fan of the game, which justifies the investment all by itself. It was a terrific night.

I think Schneider is contributing a lot to the great pitching performances from rookies. I also think that they ought to be platooning Flores and Schneider so that Schneider doesn't wear out. Three out of six games would probably make him better at the plate and behind it - it's got to be hard to stand and hit after spending six innings squatting.

Same here; Flores needs to start next year.

I agree that Schneider has helped the rookie pitchers, but Flores is the better hitter, and a pretty damn good catcher.

It sure is. Made the night even more special. He was able to explain to the guy next to us why the infield fly didn't apply, and just how great a play that was to catch the guy at first and run down the guy at 2nd.
Congratulations, because bonding with a kid of that age is tough :)

I'm pea green with envy for all of you there today - we're with you in spirit - cheering on from the game day thread - looking forward to Chico continuing with a strong pitching performance - Pujols back in the line up ... will be interesting to see how sore that elbow is ...

LOL ... it was a 1 handed half swing - and it still was almost out - so much for a sore elbow - he's just ridiculous - all I can say is thank you RFK ...

That Zimmerman blast last night just nicked my right ring finger and it feels a little sore today when I try to use it to type.

So it appears that Logan is our main CF for now and that Langerhans will be his occasional backup.
