I'd trade for him in a second. An .888 OPS out of a second baseman is awesome.
I'd take him on my team, but he does have major plate discipline and fielding issues.

Olsen has frankly looked awful tonight. It's almost criminal that we only have 1 run off that bum so far.
It's pathetic.  I'm doubly annoyed since I have Dukes/Milledge/Zimmerman starting again.  I thought they'd do better against a lefty than hitting a few singles.

He strikes out A LOT, but he also has a .357 OBP this season. That's good enough for me.

I wouldn't. He does nothing to help the Marlins win almost like :cough:Adam Dunn:cough:

OT: USF has some hard hitters, but Kansas looks like they have the smarter, faster team.

You can already tell Martis is going to become an AZ favorite.

Actually, he seems to have more of a problem with hitting enough line drives.

He had a .286 AVG before the ASB, but he's hitting .220 after.

The reason?  He had an extremely high .340 BABIP before the break.  It's only .280 after the break.

He needs to have more base hits when he makes contact.  He does walk enough, so as long as he hits at least .270, the OBP should be good.

He's had a lot to do w/ them being better than us and having a winning record.

closer, but still longer. But I haven't driven to NP except in traffic. And I'm far enough north to be able to take the back roads to 32, then to 95N, so there's not much traffic to Baltimore.

What if you drive to NP, which is quicker?

He was hyping him before his first start, calling him the new sensation out of Curacao. :?

I gotta admit, though - this start is making a Martis fan out of me.

Martis is a beast. freak those naysayers that said he's too young to be in the '09 rotation. If he earns the spot he should be in it, regardless of age.

People said that?  I totally agree - it's about performance, not age/experience.

Wasn't he hyping their little league club? Martis is his type.

This is just beautiful.  We haven't seen something like this since Lannan's start against the Mets at Shea earlier this year.

Decent.  He hasn't always hit the target, but his movement is such that he doesn't always have to.

I've actually said that. I'd like to see him season a little bit more in the minors, maybe two to three months.

Good enough. Lot of motion, lots of batters taking arms-extended swings. 9 Ks!

Yep, none other than Chico Harlan. He posted this tid-bit after Martis' ML debut.

Quote
Long-term, I don't think much was riding on this start -- Martis, at 21, is too green to be a legit candidate for next year's starting rotation -- but he left a decent impression.
