I got it working, don't ask me how I did it though

I can't connect though to my DirecTv Genie. I wonder if perhaps the security used is incompatible with DirecTv?

Followed the live blog of that. Wow. I can't afford to want it, but I want it hard. (Can't even afford an iPad mini right now.) The pen stuff is amazing... but then I'm a total sucker for pens and doodling and drawing all over screens.

Might actually replace my laptop with a Surface Pro - when my laptop dies in a few years.

I just picked up an Ultrabook so I'm probably not in the market, lol. It sounds nice, though.

BTW Start8 is great and has made Windows 8 doable for me.

It's got plain old x86 Intel processors, so it should run those games about as well as a normal laptop with Intel integrated graphics would.

Paint.NET has been updated!  It's been at 3.5.11 for years just was updated to 4.0!

While not a Microsoft product directly (though I believe the original programmer went on to work for Microsoft), it's been one of the best freeware programs for Windows for years.

i visited a Microsoft office near Seattle last year for a project.  Walking in with my Macbook and my iPhone was quite a weird feeling.  I absolutely could not take out my iPhone during any meeting nor in the cafeteria.  Of course, telling folks to "google" something didn't go over well either.

To be fair, Windows Phone and Bing are both fantastic products, it's just that they're so "un-cool".  That they arrived long after everyone locked themselves into the Apple or Google ecosystems doesn't help either.

Does Ballmer own the Clippers or something?  I'm a little out of the loop on DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS news.

bing seemed like it had momentum a few years ago, most of the college kids i knew were using it because they liked the pretty picture backdrops.  It seems that the world shifted back to Google though.  Agreed that Win Phone is a good phone and OS, but lack of apps is killing it.   We do see a lot of interest in it as the BB replacement in the business world because it integrates nicely with Microsoft Office, Lync, DRM, and app/desktop management.  I think it hangs on as a business-only device for a while.  The Surface 3 is a nice tablet as well.

Yeah, I've been rocking the Lumia 920 for a couple of years now. Great phone.  Excellent battery life, built in Office, ties in nicely to SharePoint Online.  Definitely useful for business productivity.  Also pretty damn hard to destroy.  But imref is right. There's a serious lack of apps and that will prevent it from really gaining traction despite what I feel is superior hardware and a great interface.

This is weird because earlier in the week a bunch of Windows 9 video was leaked. So what is the Windows 10 news story exactly?

Update: it appears Windows has decided to name 9 "10". So Windows 9 is being skipped for some reason.

No Windows 9?

Maybe because Windows 95,Windows 98 and Windows ME were collectively known as Windows 9x, they decided to skip Windows 9

Terry: Windows 10 is a more appropriate name because of the breadth of what's happening in this release.

http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-christens-the-next-version-of-windows-as-windows-10-7000034196/

Microsoft went instead with Windows 10 because they wanted to signify that the coming Windows release would be the last "major" Windows update. Going forward, Microsoft is planning to make regular, smaller updates to the Windows 10 codebase, rather than pushing out new major updates years apart.

-

So basically this is the last big new Windows ever, so they called it 10.
