Rick Short - First Baseman
Nationals purchased the contract of infielder Rick Short from Triple-A New Orleans. The 32-year-old Short finished up at .386/.459/.574 in 373 AB for New Orleans. He's another option at second base if Jose Vidro is done, but it's likely that he'll be used primarily as a pinch-hitter.

Kenny Kelly - Outfielder
Nationals purchased the contract of outfielder Kenny Kelly from Triple-A New Orleans. Tyrell Godwin can't be happy to be passed over for Kelly after having such a good season for New Orleans. Kelly is the older of the two by half a year and it's hard to imagine having a future in the organization. He shouldn't be much more than a pinch-runner.

Brandon Watson - Outfielder
Nationals recalled outfielder Brandon Watson from Triple-A New Orleans.
With Marlon Byrd off to a fast start since returning from the minors, Watson shouldn't get too much of an opportunity to play. NL-only leaguers should stay away.

Jose Vidro - Second Baseman
Jose Vidro might be shut down for the season because of the soreness in his right knee, manager Frank Robinson indicated tonight.
''He won't be able to do much the rest of the year,'' Robinson said. ''Chances are he won't be able to come out on a regular basis and play defense.'' An MRI is scheduled for Friday. The results could determine what kind of role, if any, that Vidro has for the rest of the year.
