And why isn't the update available via the "About Firefox - Check for Updates" in Firefox? It's available on Firefox's site but not for automatic update for some reason.

You can search around, no lack of comparative tests on the tech news circuit. My subjective impression is that font rendering with hardware acceleration enabled is much improved. Speed is too subjective to say, and I don't pay any attention to memory use.

Do you mean VMware because VirtualBox 4 has been out for awhile. VMware 4 (player, the free one) is the one that just came out and it is pretty bad.

No, I meant Virtualbox. I tried using v4 earlier in the year and ended up having huge performance issues with it running a Linux guest, fell back to v3 and everything was fine. Been using v4 again this week and every Windows guest I've installed stops working after the first boot.

Google Chrome now has remote desktop sharing support via a beta extension... authenticate with your google account, install the extension, then authorize it to share and it generates a code that you give to another chrome user to connect.

Multiplatform too. Though I've heard the beta is somewhat slow.

we use Skype to do this at work. It's built in for free now.

Chime.in went into open beta last week.

It is like Twitter for grown-ups. Seriously, its very similar to twitter but it has a lot more advanced features from what I can see. Seems like they took the twitter formula and improved on it.

been using it the past few days and I really, really like it. Not sure if it will catch on though.

Is anyone else having problems with Firefox 7, Windows obviously?

I try it and it hangs on some pages and I think it's my internet connection. I go to IE9 (WHY DO I EVER LEAVE!

) and Chrome and they work fine on the same pages. I was immediately suspicious when I heard about FF7 "improving memory usage". Coding to improve memory usage is fraught with peril because you get things like pages not loading properly.

I haven't noticed anything like that using FF7 on all my comps 24/7. Two Win7 x64 desktops and one crustly old Intel Macbook. YMMV of course.

On second thought, perhaps you're onto something. I've been noticing behavior similar to this at work but I always chalked it up to our connection getting saturated at certain times of day - lunch, for example - but it has happened other times too.

Question - what version of Firefox (if any) did you use before 7?

Whatever the final 6.x version was, 6.02 I believe and I never had this problem. I'm thinking of going back to it.

Same with me. I did notice an improvement is speed with FF7, but have had page hangs frequently also. Let me know if the problem disappears for you PC when you stop using 7.

according to a buddy of mine who was having a similar problem, changing "network.http.max-connections" in about:config from the default of 256 to a new value of 32 alleviates this issue.
