Espinosa/Lombo, Moore, Goodwin, Meyer, a lower grade pitcher, and something else decent for Stanton and Nolasco. If this deal gets done, we will have the best core of young players seen in years. Zim, BGS, Harper, Desmond, and Ramos, along with vets like Werth and Morse. This would also eliminate the need for LaRoche as we could shift Morse to first.

That gives them one more season of him. Why should they bother with waiting? He won't gain any more value, and this would let them get out of paying Nolasco.

Because, honestly, he's under contract till 2017. Did you see the list I posted in the other thread? The Marlins have traded for a lot of prospects. Stanton will be in his prime when they are entering the big leagues/breaking out. In other words, their cleanup hitter will be the best power hitter in baseball right as they're getting good.

Nope.  Just tons of "people in the know" speculating about the Nats looking at everybody.  So far this is what I've got:

Nats are favorites for Bourn.
Nats have B.J. Upton on their radar.
Nats are the dark horse for Grienke.
Nats letting Jackson walk means they want a cheaper number 5.

What we really know from Rizzo's mouth is that he is saying the Nats want to re-sign LaRoche.

They just traded their 2 best pitchers and best or 2nd best position player for a handful of prospects.  Plus useful pieces in Buck and Bonifacio.  Who would have thought the Blue Jays had the pieces to pull that off?

They're also absorbing a lot of contract. Sort of like what the Dodgers did with Crawford, Becket, and Gonzalez.

Mike Stanton is cheap and will remain cheap for a while.

Rollins on NL East: 'It still runs through Philly'

You can always count on Jimmy Rollins to provide headline material.

Rollins, who hosted a charity event Monday night to raise awareness for child abuse, made some bold statements in regards to the NL East.

"It still runs through Philly," Rollins said. "[Washington] had one year to win it. It was just like when the Mets took it from Atlanta, it was still up for grabs. I'm sure Atlanta felt it was still theirs, but fortunately we were able to come in and take it the next five years."

Following the 2012 season when the Washington Nationals clinched the NL East to snap the Phillies' five-year run, Rollins stated that if the Phillies had been healthy, Washington would have finished second (see story).

On Monday night, he reiterated that statement.

"We were undermanned," Rollins said. "It was written -- you'd write the lineup every single day and we're undermanned against a lot of teams.

"As soon we got healthy, you start to see us turn back around and catch our rhythm."

When Chase Utley and Ryan Howard returned for a full second-half, the Phillies went 44-31. As CSNPhilly.com's Corey Seidman wrote earlier this month, if you project that winning percentage over a full season, the Phillies finish 95-67 (see story).

Rollins acknowledged that Washington had a great team and a great season, but believes the NL East belongs to the Phillies -- if healthy.

"Everyone's a little angry," Rollins said, "which is good to get a chip on your shoulder and just go back out there and prove that this is still our division, but not only that, but that we're still World Champions."
