No, I was talking in general. Should have made that 2 different posts.

Winter meetings are next week. What is Riz waiting for?

December 13th.

Wil Ledezma is your idea of a shrewd move?

I was going to say, "could you imagine what SF would've posted if we signed Ledezma?"

why? We made the trade with Florida last year in the second week of November.

Tomorrow is December 1st and we haven't made one damn move. Better act fast before it's too late.

We made our best signings late last year. Lets face it, we're not many guys first choice- what's the harm in waiting for things to start to fall into place and grabbing good players later when things don't work out like they hoped (dunn/beimel) instead of trash heap guys early?

Nobody has made any trades this off season. There is a reason for that, namely teams are waiting to see who gets tendered and who doesn't. There isn't a great FA crop but there are a lot of B & C guys that can help. Why trade until you you see the whole market? There is also the January deadline for offering arbitration to players that will dump another 30-40 players into the pool.

Yeah, it's unfortunate that the Nats haven't signed anyone yet in terms of fulfilling my curiosity, but nobody's making any major moves yet.  There's been one middle-of-the-road trade (Hardy for Gomez) and that's it.

You really want Riz to be making moves like this?  None of these guys are complete players.

DPM - you can be guaranteed if Drayton McLane makes a deal with Boston involving Tug Hulett, then Tug is going to become a super sub with OBP and pop

The biggest whine I have so far is that a lot of good glove MIs are off the board.  IMO, Vizquel could have done for Desmond what he did for Andrus and will do for Alexei Ramirez, Gonzalez would have been an adequate starter for 1/2 a season or so, and even McDonald could have been useful depth.  Couple all that with not getting into the Hardy trade, and I'd have to say we've been a bit slow to fill the stated goal of acquiring a defensive SS to start or at least push Desmond (and shifting Guz to 2d).  Maybe they have made a decision that they don't intend to move Guz because he is not too far from average defensively, or maybe they've decided to take the floaties off Desmond and see if he can sink or swim in the majors, but I'd like to see some MI veteran depth, and the pool is getting thinner.

Rox not expected to offer arbitration to Beimel or Marquis.  Looks like it's just going to be Betancourt.

Wasn't Shoppach supposed to be Martinez's longterm replacement?

Carlos Santana is the big fish.

He's nearly the top prospect in baseball.

Plus Marson as a #1A if Santana can't go right away.  Shoppach is a good upgrade to whatever they had with Navarro.  I forget (and am to lazy to look up) whether Navarro is arb eligible.  They may be inclined to not offer arb now.

I like Shoppach. Linty and I exchanged views over whether last year's big drop off was the fluke or whetehr his 2008 was.  Oddly enough, that's the same question with navarro.

To clarify, by "whatever they had with Navarro," I meant their #2.  IIRC, it was Zaun and they declined his option but may offer arb.  My guess is one of Zaun or Navarro is gone.

Rich Harden was not offered arbitration.  Would have been a Type B.  They didn't offer it to Kevin Gregg either, but I'm assuming no one's really worried about him.  Not quite sure how he got to be a Type A.
