The system has shown progress, but it's trash after 5 players (Harper, Norris, Ramos, Espinosa, Cole).

Besides Cole (who hasnt thrown a minor league inning yet) I am not at all high on any pitching prospects in our system.

Meyers' career is in serious jeopardy. He can't stay healthy long enough to amount to anything. Very disappointing.

Marrero has been average. That's disappointing too.

JP Ramirez deserves a spot in the Top 10. As does Tom Milone.

Solis is polished as hell from what I hear. I'm hoping he's what Detwiler was supposed to be.

I'm excited to see where they start Solis after he pitches in the GCL. Potomac maybe?

He's an AFL candidate as well but we can only send so many players there so he probably will get left out.

I somewhat agree with this. We've grown over the last couple of years but I'm still afraid of our pitching prospects turning into the usual trAAAAsh.

IS there going to be a Hawaiian League this winter after the Florida Instructional League for prospects not in the AFL?

Oduber was not a first round pick.

He was a 32th.

What about 2009 8th round pick 2B Roberto Perez?

He's only 19 and has had a good year in the GCL. 4 Doubles, 2 HRs, 11 RBIs, 11 BBs, 12 Ks, 8 SBs, 1 CS (.313/.404/.438)

Wait... he decided to sign a contract as a 32th round pick but decided to skip out on a 4th round pick? Even when he could have improved his draft stock next year?
oops that meant to say 48th round

I'm surprised to see so many players making the jump from the GCL to Hagerstown so late in the year. Don't really see the point in giving them 1-2 weeks of at-bats versus the Sally League. Should of just let them finish out the year in the GCL.

Sorry, what I saw was a Bonus Baby Report saying he should have been drafted in the teens... You quoted it in the long-forgotten draft signing thread.

I did know he was 32nd though... Just teens talent.

Yeah he was quite the get for Rizzo! To get that talent late in the draft shows hard work and a willingness to open the pockets a bit to sign guys you really want!

I assume that any good GM clears a budget with the ownership prior to the draft and then works within that budget. Based on just last year and this year, it looks like the Lerners are more likely to care about an overall budget than something like a "total budget besides the first round pick". Hence, last year we had more signability picks due to Rizzo understanding that Strasburg was going to take up a lot of the budget. This year, we had more overslot picks because Rizzo thought (rightly, it turned out) that Harper wasn't going to cost nearly as much as Strasburg.

However, both years the end result is the Lerners spending in the top 5 among all franchises in overall draft signings, nearly $20 million last year and $15+ this year in total, which is a very good thing and something that hopefully will continue.
