Rizzo was on with Dibble and Jody Mac on XM yesterday.  I missed it, but Dibble reiterated on the broadcast that they had signed 10 or 11 of the draftees already.

If I were to guess who signed, I'd start with the college seniors (Nicol, Walker, Sferra, Holder, Morris, Lehman, Clegg, Bronson & McCatty) and junior college guys (Washiya, Jordan, Jenkins, Crane, Swynenberg, & Wort).

Correct, I heard the Rizzo interview, he said 11 were already signed, and this was as of yesterday around 5:30 pm.

I'm keeping my eye on this guy due to him being local and playing for the Wilmington Sharks currently. He is undecided on if he is going to sign but he says he is excited that Washington drafted him.

love the fact the taylor jordan kid is already signed.  also love his attitude and sounds like he could be a steal for us.

here's a tidbit i found via BA.

Quote
Jordan is bigger and has more projection, though his arm action isn’t as clean. There’s nothing there that is alarming, and with a 92 mph fastball and the makings of a usable breaking ball, I’d be willing to bet he pitched his way into the top six rounds with two easy, efficient innings of work this weekend.

I know his coach said he can reach 96 and throws comfortably at 89-93 w/ movement.

According to Chico on Nats Journal, 3rd round pick Trevor Holder is now signed and off to Vermont.

good to see the club sign so many guys so quickly.  it shows that some of the draftees are eager to get going.  and nice work lerners and front office

Agreed, but keep in mind there's another dynamic at work here.  In a way, these prospects are competing with each other for the finite budget the Nats have for signing 2009 draftees.  Those that wait too long can find themselves on the outside looking in, as more eager players soak up the available budget.  No team signs all its draftees, there's not enough $ to do so typically.

i know.  but generally its the higher draft picks that get signed - usually the better players - which i'm all for.

Sure.  The Lerners did a GREAT job in 2007 when the Nats signed their top 20 picks, the only team to do so, and earned BA's top rating.  They actually did pretty well in 2008 as well, with the glaring omission of Crow.

Has anybody seen rankings of the draft quality by team?  I don't put much stock in them, but I want to feel good about something.

How did you come to that conclusion from one article that called only two guys overdrafts?

Holder maybe an overdraft to other people but clearly the Nats had him in their Top 40. that is all that matters.

The only players we know without question are Storen and Holder. We can assume that Jordan is signed based on his quotes.

The rest of the names will either be uncovered through talking to their agents or more likely, the Nationals will issue a press release early this week with all of them. The Monsters start on Friday and I believe we'll have a bunch of names shortly

I love that Holder and Jordan signed already. Get them working and on their way to the Minors just like Storen. I have it on good faith that Jeff Kobernus is to sign fairly shortly. I am very excited for that guy and think he will be a stud.

The more guys who sign early, the less retreads and scrubs we trot out in Vermont. Get it done, Kasten and Rizzo.

He mentioned two, Storen is widely considered to be another.  Okay, so I exaggerated slighty.

It's really hard projecting young guys, we have seen in the past that 1st round picks or so don't always get to the majors. It seems like we picked a lot of overdrafts ( I don't count Storen as an overdraft ...maybe slightly). But the organization might have seen interesting stuff in those guys but I do beleive that some (or most) of the post Strasburg picks were signability'ish.

I was hoping Morris would get in here quickly.
