Yep. Still other teams have beat Lee and Halladay all year. Why can't we?

They didnt have Utley and Howard then, genius

Yes they did.

Lee hadn't won since the last time we faced him. They've had Utley and Howard since then.

Did LaRoche's ball hit the plexiglass above the fence?

It hit the top of the fence and bounced back onto the field.

From the CBP ground rules:  Ball strikes top of outfield fence or scoreboard and rebounds onto the playing field: In Play.

I think the Nats have to know the ground-rules at Fillies Park...and Werth especially should know unless they have changed the rule about the railing since he play for them. I don't agree with FP: (a visiting team can't be expected to know all the ground rules.)

Teams get paid to do this.

I even remember one of the rules at old Griffith Stadium: the CF flag-pole was considered part of the fence. If a ball hit the flag-pole and dropped back onto the field, it was in play. Can't imagine that happened often, but that was the rule.

Werth should have known and should have run hard to score. LaRoche should have looked for an umpire to be giving the home-run sign. No sign = ball in play.

Bah.

Hypothetically, who gets fired if this team misses the playoffs?

Just asking

Tracee Hamilton.

We already beat Halladay this year.

Monday seems like a soul searching day. It is obviously bad that this team has gone cold all at once. However the team has rebounded from sweeps before, so I hope they can do it again.

Werth played in this park for years. He should know the rules. Why wasn't he running hard to score?

Exactly right. And the rest of the team should know the rules, especially since many of them have played in that park before.

It's not even a rules thing to me.   It's a lack of their heads in the game.   If the ump doesn't signal a HR, you hussle until you hear otherwise.   Play to the whistle  ...  signal.

Chins should be left in Philly.  There are two perfectly capable first basemen even with Morse out of the picture.

LaRoche-Werth should both be benched for a game

Davey just said it ... assuming that ball was a HR and not running full tilt is a losing attitude.

Ian Desmond should be playing because I think he's going on the DL and now the 15 day clock starts over again.

More excellent managing from Davey

That, too. Same principle as the Nyjer Morgan play (throws down glove) and the 2000 WS Temo Martinez trot that got him thrown out at home.

Too many of these types of things happening recently  ...  Espi's "steal"  ...  holding runners on  ...  just an over all (someone else wrote it) bad vibe.

Lincecum not helping us at all

Assumptions for the rest of the year:

- Nobody will help us (and poor Lincecum is pitching like he's done)
- Every team will want to beat the "cinderella team", the team that has the best record, the team getting so much publicity just about a medical decision.

Sounds like Davey wants to cut Harper's playing time. (See comments about young players trying to hit HR's rather than line-drives: learn to hit, he says, then hit for power. Seems to mean Espi and Harper. Maybe Lombo plays more?)

If Lincencum doesn't find some velocity... I think he'll always have some troubles being what he was.

Awful. Just awful. Is it really midnight and the stagecoach really has turned back into a pumpkin?
