This one's more excruciating because we could have had so many opportunities and, in light of those earlier games, we knew it was going to come back and haunt us.

Earlier in the season, we didn't necessarily know that what was coming.  Now, we know what's coming.
is it more painful knowing what it is going to happen or not knowing?

anyone who has watched a Nationals game this year knew Balester was going to implode and our bullpen would get shelled after we stranded all of those runners on base throughout the game.

i still can't believe we only have one run today.  108 pitches in 5 innings from their starter ... he's in line to get a win.

Really, the two teams are pretty similar.

For some reason I missed this sentence in your post. My bad.

You don't agree?
i do. it's just funny as hell that we were "lucky" to escape the inning only allowing 6 runs

no point in coming back. save the runs for Wrigley.

any potential comeback today would be ruined by the bullpen anyways. :?

I don't know how to fix this team, honestly.  I don't know if anybody knows how to fix this team.

Is this team fixable, is real (and tragic) question?  And don't just mean the 25-man roster.  I mean the entire franchise.  I don't know if this franchise is fixable.

They're going to have to do more than just sit around waiting for minor leaguers to pan out or using the scotch tape (cheap) approach.

It's not that bad, lot of guys left on base today - which is a partly bad luck.   Riggleman also has a quick hook.   Sometimes you just need to let these young starters stay out there, even if it means the game.   Alternative is a beat up bullpen.

That said, can't say I've heard anything from Stan or Rizzo that's really encouraging for the future.

I've said it a bunch of times but this may be the worst loss of the season.  So close to enjoying a good day, then just like that ...  :(

Manny would have taken him out too.  Riggleman nor Manny don't seem to have a sense of their team.  The manager has to have a sense of whether the his team is likely to win a game.  Looking at the totality of the situation, Riggleman had to know the likelihood of winning this game was small, regardless of who was pitching, because of how we were playing offensively.

Balestar's pitch count was only 75.  You leave him in until it's at least 100.  Let him try to work out of it.  He might learn something from it.  All that would happen else is that we'd lose, which, again, was likely to happen anyway.

It's definitely fixable, I just don't know that there's the quick fix that will also being about the long term success we also want.

Aren't that many big name free agents this year anyway.   The farm has to produce even if Uncle Ted and Mini-Me decide to spend a little of their tightly held cash.

We really shouldn't be surprised.  All of the ingredients were in place for this to blow up in our faces...

Cut Sosa, bring up Zinicola or Estrada  - they better bring up 5-6 relievers when rosters expand.

Also surprised that Villone got his first scoreless outing months (at least it seems that way), and that Bergmann has been really bad lately.
