There are a lot of things to be irate about but this isn't one of them [Fielder]. I may be able to work up to slightly bothered if you can provide a suitable rant. Bonus points for repetition across numerous threads.

you remember the line-up from last year don't you?  you remember how bad it was, right?

well get ready to see it again.

It just struck out a lot. But we hit a lot of homers. Plus, with healthy Zimmerman and improved Werth, we should be set.

Just stick with the plan. Harper and Rendon will be up soon. It'll all work out. Just two years away now.

Sure, we hit two more HR's than league average 154 vs. 152, but we scored 70 less runs than league average, as well 624 vs. 694.

Finished 24/30 in OBP, which is a huge problem that has not been addressed this off-season, unfortunately.

NL Ranks in 2011

AVG - 15/16
OBP - 13/16
SLG - 11/16
OPS - 12/16

Finished 11/16 in runs scored per game in NL
Finished 13/16 in walks in the NL
Finished 13/16 in 2B in the NL
Finished 14/16 in 3B in the NL
Finished 15/16 in hit in the NL
Finished 16/16 in strikeouts in the NL

If anything, the Gio trade seems to be the one that was least needed. If I was Rizzo, I would have looked to improve my offense first. Hopefully with a late charge on Prince, we can sort of accomplish both.

So he fell in the Nats lap because of a weak market and the team could still screw it up?

Yeah. Sounds about right.

What are you talking about Linty? In two years, we'll have Morse at first and Harper in LF. Rendon at 2B, Espi at shortstop. And you know Rizzo will have found his white whale by then. We'll be great offensively. Two year  plan man ... Expect It.

I wouldn't call 6/7 years for Fielder a "down" market. Boras' idea of what Fielder is worth, at his age, body, and father is super inflated.

yup.  and this is coming from someone who knows how the owners work, how the team operates and still has contacts in the organization.

this is a deal that needs to get done.

Totally agree.  As much as his age is thrown at there as a reason he should get a super-long deal, it seems clear teams don't view him as they would a 27 year old who was in better shape.

If the Nats signed Fielder, I for one wouldn't give a crap about the circumstances.  If they're able to get him cheaper because of a down market, more power to them, that's what they should want to do.

But complete radio silence and a snail's pace are how they operate.

I still don't see reason for them to offer "fair market value" unless the Rangers are willing to jump in big. No other team is equipped or willing to offer anything approaching Prince's "fair market value." Dangle something like 5/110 and see if the Rangers can match. Offer 6/140ish if you need to but don't do a no-trade clause.

I'd give him the no-trade as well as opt-out after 3, but low-ball him on the years and dollars: 5/110

Including an opt-out that he would choose to opt out of is pretty much the only way that I'd throw in a no-trade clause. So yeah that sounds good.

Do you sign Morse to a multi-year deal if you are still in the hunt for Fielder?
