OMG .... if there hadn't been so many tragedies in baseball this year I would make a very nasty comment about something bad happening to the HP umpire

Goodness gracious! The strike zone for our pitchers is so minuscule.

fundamentals - fundamentals - fundamentals. one day, Manny will spend hour after hour on the field teaching the players how to catch and how to throw, how to bunt, how to run how to hit a cut off man how to steal a base how not to get picked off etc etc etc

At this level that should not be an issue.

precisely. but what annoys me is that its been this way all thru the frank robinson years and when Manny was hired its one of the first things he talked about.so it is sad that these things are still what stops us from being a .500 ball club this year. i just hope that as the talented youngsters start coming up, the team learns how to do these little things

Our fly balls die when they get to the warning track. It's like the baseballs off our bats think they are still in RFK.

i understand that the thinking is that he'll play left field next year (lose another 20 lbs. first) so that churchie may have seen his last days.

Yeah wpa, Lannan hit Utley on an 0-2 pitch and then hit Howard on the very next pitch but considering there was one out in the 5th and we were down 1 there was no way he was doing it intentionally. The moron umpire tossed him immediately and then after having a talk with Manny he tossed Acta while Acta was standing on the mound.

We've been getting squeezed in the strike zone all series and now this  Essentially it means our pitchers can't pitch inside, especially considering some of their hitters dive into the strike zone.

Good god ... I thought last night's ump was horrendous - is this guy nuts? Utley was the *)(*#@  who   LEANED into the pitch last night

When Manny talked to the ump after he tossed Lannan, Acta was calm and businesslike as usual.  Manny pointed to the scoreboard.  Tossing Acta made that umpire look like the horse's AZZ that he is.  This was Lannan's MLB debut after 4 AAA starts, and 40 members of his family are in the stands watching.  He was not trying to hit either batter; he's left handed and so was the 2nd batter.

Tossing Manny should buy Lannan another start, IMHO.  Neither one of them should have been ejected and Manny didn't SEEM to be doing any name calling (unless he did it on the mound, and the ump heard him, which would have been pretty funny.)  So Lannan and Acta are both sitting somewhere downstairs, now brothers in their mutual, unwarranted ejections.
