Nationals @ Angels, Game 1

LET'S...GO...NATS!

I'm sorry this first post doesn't contain the usual bells and whistles, but I am currently on a plane from Atlanta to Dulles.  I did, however, grab tonight's starting lineups from Mr. Kilgore's blog:

1. Roger Bernadina, CF
2. Jayson Werth, RF
3. Ryan Zimmerman, 3B
4. Laynce Nix, LF
5. Michael Morse, 1B
6. Danny Espinosa, 2B
7. Wilson Ramos, C
8. Matt Stairs, DH
9. Ian Desmond, SS

Let 25 pages of debate over Davey starting Matt Stairs on his first night as skipper commence!  Here are my thoughts: While I have been demanding Stairs' unconditional release for two months, I don't have a problem with Johnson finding out once and for all whether this guy can still play baseball.  Start him as DH against righties and if he doesn't produce, release him IMMEDIATELY.

Let's go Nats!  And again, my apologies for going Cuckoo's Nest over Riggleman vs. Rizzo.

I love that lineup. I would like to take it out to a movie and I'd even buy it popcorn. Nice post, S37.

Damnit. I need to be up at 5 tomorrow morning, but I think I'll be staying up for this. The DJ presser was interesting.

I like the lineup. Zim and Stares homer tonight. Expect it.

Is there a way to shrink the picture?  Way too big.  My apologies...

+1.  As I posted on the main board, I have a weird feeling that he is about to bust out.  And we WILL make the playoffs if he returns to form.  Take it to the bank.

The problem with Stairs DH'ing points more to problems with the how the roster is constructed.   The options are Stairs, Bixler or Cora.  None are particularly compelling but I'd DH Cora...again pointing to roster problems if you have to use Cora as a DH.

This will be the first game I've watched in more than a month, things have been busy and life got in the way. Glad to see the Nats are playing above .500 ball, I'd love to seem them leading for the WC come the All-Star game. Damn I missed this place and all you characters.

Missing Ankiel hurts, although he hasn't set the world on fire.

Agree.  We're also missing the Buck Commander Adam LaRoche.

A better nickname might be Adam "Afterthought" LaRoche.

This is a must win game and Davey puts Stairs in the starting line-up?  If we lose both of them can stay in California.

Otherwise known as a $150 million failure.  Good job Angels.

Davey Johnson will own souls tonight.

On vacation in Colorado where I experienced a wind chill of 22 degrees this morning. I plan to download the MLB At Bat app tonight...does anyone have any feedback on it? In addition to being in my favorite place on earth, the 8:00 start time will make it much easier to stay up for the whole game :)  Go Nats!

FYI, in the Tigers-Blue Jays game, a call at first base was changed.  It was originally called safe.  The homeplate umpire said he was out.  They changed the call to out.

Jim Leyland was ejected without the flair of John McLaren, though.   :mg:

Who's Johnson's bench coach?
