This is a pretty weak draft overall so we would not be missing much by dropping in the lottery.  The three best players in the draft are 2 SG which we have no use for and nerlens noel who is crap offensively.

What we need is to acquire an above average SF and we could get somewhere.

Noel just went down with an ACL.  SF is good if both Webster and Ariza are here, probably the best shooter and best defender currently on the roster, but it wouldn't hurt to upgrade if possible.  Real size inside is the big need.  The roster is full of 6'7"-6'10" guys who are good in the post but undersized.

I don't know which of the current crop of big guys in college I'd take, but I like Len and Zeller.  I'd still take Noel if he comes out unless he's got the crazy bad genetics that Greg Oden had.

Singleton has been coming along likely and I wouldn't mind him as a backup to Webster.  Not sure how much longer Ariza is signed but however long it is, I don't think he's worth bringing back.

Maybe they get a high lottery pick and trade it for another veteran - hopefully a younger guy like maybe LaMarcus Aldridge.

Noel would be a good pick but I wouldn't take him in the top 5.  I'm hoping for Bennett.

Not sure how another undersized 4 helps this team.

Here are the contracts:  http://hoopshype.com/salaries/washington.htm

If Ariza decides to not exercise his player option next season then I hope they use some of that money to resign Webster.

I'd be fine with them holding on to Price as a backup PG since he's got a 3.5/1 assist to turnover ratio.

Beyond next season the only contracts I'd definitely want on the roster are Nene, Wall, Beal, Webster, Singleton, and Seraphin.  Price and Booker are also solid possibilities.  That opens up a lot of space for others to come in and have a real affect on the roster, especially the true center to balance out the front court.

Seeing Baltche on that page is funny.  Stupid Baltche.  Wish I could get a job where they would pay me $8 mil to get fat and not care.

A further indicium of just how dire the Bullets/Wizards were back then...that series marked their only playoff appearance from 1989 through 2004 inclusive.

Some ESPN tweet from last night said the Wizards are interested in Josh Smith and said that everything is available except for Wall, Beal, and Nene.

I'd take him, though. Maybe we could steal a SF in the draft/FA and pair them with Webster.

If they'd take something like Ariza, Vesely and Crawford for him, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't sign Josh Smith to a max contract, though.  Maybe they could trade Nene for him?  Smith and Okafor would be very good defensively and on the boards.  Nene is older and much more injury-prone.

Atlanta spent all of the offseason clearing cap room for next year. They won't want to exchange Smith's expiring deal for an equally large long term deal. That would undo most of what they have been trying to do.

Why are they trying to trade him if they want cap room?  They could just let him go when his contract expires.

I suppose they could look for a crappy, high paid player with an expiring contract plus a high draft pick?  I'm not sure many teams have that combination of things and would want to exchange them for Josh Smith.

I'm sure they're just looking for cheap, young depth. I'd send them Booker and stuff. But then again, I don't know what anyone on our team's contract is like so I'm just talking out of my ass.

Is Leonsis bouncing cheques to the power company...or did someone think the Caps were playing at home last night instead of the Wizards? It was cold as all get out up in the 400's last night.

[not as cold as the Wizards' play last night though - 96-88 loss to the Raptors]

D League product  ...  D League accommodations.   I watched it and couldn't believe the level of play (fouls, TO, lack of focus, etc.).   The scoreboard at floor level.   Total bush league presentation.   You should get a refund (pro-rated for STH).

And superstar Leandro Barbosa is coming to town.

Jordan Crawford to Boston.

At least they got rid of him.  Barbosa's contract expires after this season, Crawford had at least 1 more year, so there's a little more cap flexibility.

Zero cap flexibility.  They still have zero cap room.

Traded Crawford for nothing.  I'm not sure what this accomplishes.  It's not like the Wizards are drowning in talent.  Craw wasn't perfect, but he had a role to play on an NBA team.  Not sure how they can afford to give guys like that away.

its not like they could do much with cap room (wasn't that ernie's excuse for Nene, Ariza, and Okafor in the first place?)

If they were trying to make a cost-cutting move, they would have tried to get rid of Okafor, Nene, or Ariza.  Jamal Crawford was barely making $1 million this season.

So yeah, they freed up $1 million.  They can sign another bench warmer now.

Grunfeld and Leonsis are both awful.  Someone get Dan Snyder to buy the Wizards and have Vinny be the GM.  Their ways of spending money would win the Wizards a championship.

Crawford is a locker room problem/me first guy.  He just complained on Twitter about how good his numbers were while the team only won 5 games. Getting rid of him, and getting 2 expiring contracts in return, is a plus.

This move, coupled with potentially being rid of Ariza's contract next offseason (player option, why would he stay?), will get them around $10-12 million under the luxury cap threshold for next season.  2014-2015 will see them down to about $40 million in payroll going into free agency.
