So much for being able to search for anything on a nexus or for Siri loosing to voice search

We just spoke with a Google spokesperson, who informed us that the update, which will be rolling out to all Galaxy Nexus devices in the US regardless of carrier, will essentially dumb down the quick search bar on the Android homescreen, limiting its results to just those from the web. No local searches on the device will be performed at all, taking on-device apps, integrated Gmail, and other search results out of play. Voice search, which has been a point of contention in the trial, isn't going anywhere — but it will be restrained to the same set of limited search results.

So apparently, my new phone (LG Optimus Elite on Virgin Mobile) is capable of using Google Wallet.

I got 10 bucks added to my Wallet Account just for activating the Google Prepaid Card that comes with Google Wallet.

anyone tried it out?

You can still buy existing stock, so HS is incorrect.  That injunction BS will get cleared up in no time anyway.

You left something out:

Much of the infringement spat has related to Android's use of a unified search interface, but according to Google the standout feature of Android 4.1 — Google Now — will be safe when 4.1 arrives for the general public. "This just relates to the Galaxy Nexus," the spokesperson told us, "and not a product on the Galaxy Nexus."

So...  they're going to gimp it on the GN but not on other phones?  Or they're just gimping it in 4.0 but not 4.1?

Oh, now I get it.  This was a jab at me for liking some of the products Apple produced over the years.  I'm not a fanboy (and I'm not impressed with much of anything Apple has done of late), I had no idea that there was anything going on with the Galaxy Nexus as far as an injunction.  In fact, I still don't know anything about it, I'll have to check it out.

BTW, I OWN a Galaxy Nexus

This seems a bit clearer:

Quote
Google told the technology site The Verge that it planned to issue a software update that would fix some of the disputed patent issues. The update, the company said, would disable users’ ability to search the phone and just allow them to search the web. Thursday afternoon, no such update had been sent out to Galaxy Nexus phones.

Google confirmed to ABC News that the Galaxy Nexus had been pulled from its Google Play store as a result of the judge’s decision, but said it would begin selling the device again next week running the latest version of Android — Android 4.1, known as Jelly Bean. The updated version of Android would address the issues in dispute, Google said.

it's pulled from Google's own store and no new one's are being imported. If that's the only gimp great, but the other possible gimp that would make it a no go for me is no longer hyperlinking phone numbers (I couldn't care less about slide to unlock).

Whatever the outcome, I can't see Apple winning any friends or admirers this way.

probably not, but crippled android phones help sell iphones. I'm upgrading soon and hoping the SG III will be the form factor for a nexus, but if all of the disputed features get pulled from android, I'll probably stick with apple

Maybe I'll just stick with my SGS1 for a while longer...  community ROMs will just thumb their noses at Apple, I'd imagine.

Have you held an SGS3 yet?  They feel really good in-hand, and not nearly as large as you'd think by the screen size.  Current iPhones are too small for me...  I used to think Androids were too big, but after using a 4" SGS1 for 18 months, the IP4/S feels tiny to me.

It looks really nice but everything for my bike is set up for iPhone.

Gotcha.  Makes sense.  I'd consider waiting for an IP5 except that I use all the Google Apps so much...  don't think I could go back to iOS.
