stay healthy Rendon. You're another bat that we could use.

I doubt it. There's no rush to bring him up with Zimmerman and Espinosa holding down 3rd and 2nd.

he's 22 and has a very polished bat, eye, and glove pretty soon the minors will be a waste of his talent.  plus we could use his bat

Where would he play? I think Rizzo would rather have Rendon playing everyday in Harrisburg or Syracuse instead of sitting on the bench in the majors ala Tyler Moore.

I don't Rendon would come up unless there's an injury somewhere. Every position is filled. If Morse/LaRoche were to go in 2014, then I can see him taking over 1b or something.

Here's where it starts to get difficult- where does the team improve from an offensive standpoint? 3B, SS, and 2B are definitely locked up for a while (we could stand to improve on Espinosa, but that's unlikely to occur), as are two OF spots by Werth and Harper. Catcher isn't a suitable spot for prospects, obviously, and we haven't even spoken about what to do about Morse and LaRoche. And that's before Tyler Moore is accounted for. Where does Rendon, or anyone else really, fit in? The offense can definitely stand to improve, the question is where? Harper has to improve, of course, which I fully expect him to do, but with the exception of catcher, which is pretty much beyond help, where do you go?

And then if there's no room for him, who do we trade him for? We are just too good!  :(

Way, way too soon to start thinking about stuff like that. Rendon could get injured five more times and fizzle out. But there's also a pretty decent chance he develops into a titan of a hitter and either slides in at 2B or becomes one of the best offensive/defensive 1Bs in baseball.

Maybe he could both play 1B and be the leadoff hitter.  He seems to get on base at a good clip.

you know what's sad?

if rendon stayed healthy and delivered ... he would've been up at harrisburg a long time ago.  and if he raked there, you really never know.  it's a long shot, but at least he would've been one step closer to the bigs.

Can we just petition to schedule all of our interleague games in the second half next year so he can DH half the time after he's called up?

Moore is our DH next year.

I think Rendon will eventually be our 2nd baseman.  They'll trade Espi for prospects, he will prob have good value since teams need starting 2nd basemen.  Lombo will continue to be our super utilityman.

That is the question. I think ALR comes back next year and approves the mutual option for not contributing last year.I love Rendons potential but he needs to play in the AFL this Fall as Harper did last year with the special exception and start at Harrisburg next season.

I would not consider trading Morse as some on here have suggested. If in the worst case scenario I would slide him over to 1B in 2014 when ALR goes FA. He is good enough there for several years in 2014 and beyond.

Mindfact alert?

Morse has a .338 wOBA this year. That would place him 15 out of 24 full-time 1B in the majors.

He'll be 32 years old in 2014. He's already a poor defender and baserunner, and is unlikely to improve at either of those things.

He is no certainty to be "good enough" for a contending club at 1B in 2014, let alone for several years beyond that.

Think about at what point some of the ALR, Beast, Espi etc... discussion belongs in a long term roster thread.  It is all tied to Rendon's future.  I think at this point there is no need to narrow him in on one position until the long term roster is figured out.  2d or 1st seem most likely, but even left is a possiblility.

I don't think moving him back to SS is something the team will consider, but it is relatively easy to move a SS to 2d or another position in comparison to moving a player back to SS.  At the start of the year, wasn't the plan to play him some at SS?  he was only moved off SS to make room for Hague in college.  Developing him a bit at SS would keep the flexibility for him in the IF and increase his trade value if, by some miracle, we land a white whale (or Goodwin is the white whale), Espi sticks, and we have one keeper among among 3 1Bs on our MLB roster.

That doesn't give you much time to make the decision since ALR will be a free agent this year and Morse after next season. I think if they want to fast track Rendon, 1b is the position, if they like him as a trade chip 3b. I just don't trust his health as a MI

I don't see a need for Rendon on the roster next year as anything more than an injury back up, so I would still try to keep him in the middle infield as long as possible, I think at SS.  I've never played middle infield, but isn't it a bit less vulnerable to injury because most DPs have the 2B turning them, you are facing the base runner when you do turn the DP rather than having him come from behind, and you have the bag between you and the runner as you approach 2d?
