No we didn't.  We've shown our true colors in how we've responded to losses like this, and we've had a couple.  They've responded well and haven't let losses like this pile up.  I don't expect that to start now.

Well now we can't respond and bounce back because there's no game for 5 days.

That is why this loss is so discouraging. And it's a series loss at home to a bad team.

We'll have an opportunity to get off to a fast start on Friday.  Every team in the playoffs will have a series or two or three like this.  Every single one.

I agree. But it's unfair to place all the blame on one person, and or part of the team. It was a team loss.

I agree completely.  The offense scored 3 runs in a game started by Jeremy Guthrie....but Burnett was really bad today.

Jordan Zimmermann pitched well again, Ian Desmond is the teams 1st half MVP and we are 1st place in NL at ASB.  That's it.

Was DeRosa available?  I would have rather had him than Flores at the plate at the end.

I wanted the Nats to win this game.

But I see hammonds is doing the gameday thread. Oh well. 8)

i like Davey but he blew this one.  JZ should've pitched the 8th - he was only at 95 freaking pitches.  the Rockies must have been thrilled to see him come out.

then you have Flores at the plate with left-handed bats on the bench??

Think the Rockies would trade us their hitting coach? Damn. They are good situational hitters.

Dude he deserves the loss.  Burnett was obviously worse.  Clipp has had an all star year this season, but wasnt good today.

Every time I get pissed at this team for a loss like this, I make myself go to the board and write 10 times...

Win 2 out of every 3 series, sweep as often as you get swept, make the playoffs.

The best explanation for Burnett's performance was he'd already started his All Star break.  I just looked at his line and it was even worse than I remembered.  He didn't record a single out.

ATTENDANCE at this match: 25,125

...just barely keeping alive our string of consecutive home matches with 25k or better attendance (now 22 straight). Still our poorest-drawing Sunday of the season and only the second time this year we've drawn less than 33k for a Sunday.

It was a scorcher all right in the early going, but after about 15.00 the TBSITH neighbourhood was pretty comfortable.

Glad I went but Flores was disappointing there at the end. The place went from exciting to deflated at the drop of the hat. Loved the double steal though.

Agreed, everyone in the stadium was hyped and on their feet after the double steal and then Flores just took all the life out of it.

It sure didn't look like 25K in the park.

Probably a lot of no-shows among the planholders; also for much of the match, many fans were huddled at the back of sections to get out of the sun, which also made for a sparser look.

I was a little surprised how many people were hiding on the concorse when I went on beer or water runs. Open sight lines I guess.

THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS AND ON THROUGH THE ALL-STAR BREAK: Friday 8th July 2005 saw the Nats open an away series at Philadelphia with an 8-7 win...but the following two days would bring losses by 1-nil and 5-4 (12 innings). Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th were within the All-Star break.
Record at the break: 52-36.

It was very difficult to judge the actual attendance yesterday as most of the fans were sitting in the back of the sections under the shaded areas and there were lots of fans on the concourses.  Certainly not 25K, but easily over 15K, although there was no chance that 10K saw the final out, the heat wore people out.  We were the only ones from our Girl Scout group that made it to the end.

I think people are just tired of 100+ degree heat and going home to a building that may, or may not, have A/C.
