None of this really makes sense because it's what Hanrahan did today (he would have pitched today anyways) that has put us into this position. What would any other move have to do with it?

Just like in the medical arena, triage doesn't insure that the "targeted" patients will survive.  There would be no guarantee that we would have won if we'd done exactly what I prescribed.  Like I posted sometime last year about Frank's managing, making the right decision is irrespective of the outcome, ie sometimes you can do all the right things and still lose.  That doesn't excuse the manager from doing the right thing.

And now how does THAT make sense? Church has stunk it up outside of that homer. What could he have done yesterday to change the game?

Well Pena did go 0-4 yesterday so Church couldn't have been much worse.  I'm also not convinced that Pena is that good.

I guess it really doesn't matter then. I'll continue to trust his decision making.

Nice job, Kearns! He's been great recently.

Church has had his shot and has blown it. At least he got that, right? The one thing he is not is clutch. That's what we need. Pena needs to get his work in on this team before next season.

Church hit a big homer for us in Arizona a few weeks ago.  Church isn't great but he isn't horrible.  Pena has looked bad except for a few homers.

Even that pop out right there was better than what Pena did yesterday. Pena is no more a consistent hitter than Church.  Church, after all, does have a better BA and Pena had a much better lineup around him in Boston.

I've been checking in the last couple of innings, looks like we haven't given up yet.  If we need 4 runs this is the place to do it.

Pena, to me, is younger, stronger, and just plain better than Church. LF is a power/production position. Having a young guy that fits that profile is an advantage for us.

Can we organize a quick trade with the Rockies and have Cordero pitch the 9th?  :)

I can't wait until we leave this stupid park.  It is such an unfair advantage to have to play in Colorado if you are the road team.  Colorado shouldn't even be allowed to have a baseball team in those conditions.

Pena didn't have the starts that Church has had. BTW, that pop out you liked so much, how does that compare better than Wily Mo's foul ball home run?

Anyways, I'll agree to disagree on this stuff. At least you can have a normal argument/debate, unlike A LOT of people on here.

What kind of cheese would you like? Pimento or Swiss? Credibility is waining at this point.
For a team with such great HFA they seem to have trouble making the postseason.

You can blame that on their front office for never acquiring any good pitchers.

At least Florida lost again.  The Nats went 3-4 this week and still gained ground on the Fish who went 1-6.   :|

Our combined rotation this season is by far the worst in the majors. Good pitching ALWAYS beats good hitting. Just shouldn't be surprising if we a lose series to anyone. Power is something we need to look at in the offseason, but pitching is far more important.

I just caught this and had to respond. To call our "combined rotation" "by far the worst in the majors" is beyond ABSURD and provably so, completely ignoring the actually statistics would immediately disprove this.

Elmer Dessens is provably a bad starter that we should have beaten.  There is no way you can make the case that HE should have dominated us the way he did.
