why would seattle want someone who is unproven and yet they'd have to give up a big pitching prospect?

i like rendon, but this isn't fantasy.

It would be a prospect for prospect trade - not very common, I know.  But they have plenty of pitching prospects and not so many hitting prospects.

Kilgore on Jackson:

This smells like a sweetheart deal last year with Boras.  By not offering a QO, it probably adds a few million to Jackson's offers.  A team like the Angels or Baltimore could bring him in and not lose a middling 1st round pick.

I hadn't thought of that.  That's interesting.  Maybe we could work something similar out with another Boras client for next year.  If the Nats strike out on Greinke or Sanchez, are there any other Boras clients, besides Jackson himself, that would come here to be the #4/5 next year on a 1 year deal?

Jackson is probably furious -  he lost a lot of money coming here last year,  I'd be shocked if he ever sees a deal like the ones he turned down again

he was pretty damn serviceable last year, just not in the playoffs.  he's going to make a good chunk of change this offseason, no doubt.

Indians trade RP Esmil Rodgers to the Blue Jays for IF Mike Aviles and and IF/C Yan Gomes.

The same Aviles who was traded to the Blue Jays for manager John Farrell.

If Espi gets traded then the 2B will almost definitely be lombo until Rendon is ready come June.

And the Nats would be worse off because of it.

Be careful what you wish for.

Jackson is no longer a Boras client.

The nats will need to get Rendon in the lineup.  I think there is a very good chance Espi gets traded this offeason.

Mike Gonzalez didn't find a home for 2012 until May, but interest in the left-hander is plentiful this offseason. He told James Wagner of The Washington Post that about ten teams have already expressed interest in his services, but his top priority is staying with the Nationals.

It's a balancing act, once you put that qualifying offer out there, you have to be ready for Edwin to take it at $13.3m. Also note that maybe other teams think Edwin isn't worth $13M AND a draft pick. So, if you really want him, make the QO and be prepared that he takes it. But if you have a different plan, don't make the QO because Edwin may take it.

He dropped Boras didn't he?

I think so, but this might have been the deal last year.

I don't know why everyone is so set on moving Harper out of center.
