Pujols will remain healthier and put up better numbers where he can DH. Just factoring in his legacy considerations, he had to see LA as a better opportunity. Then he has the media market for extra cash and better chances for rings.

Plus the comparisons to Lebron if he went to Miami.

I'm still very surprised he didn't stay in StL.  It's not like he's hurting for cash.

Two rings and being a decent human being says otherwise.

If you could live in LA or St Louis doing the same job, but making more in la, why on earth wouldn't you go?

Much the way the Nats undercut Buehrle, I'm sure Pujols was not exactly pleased with the Cardinals low balling him on their final offer.

Depends - if I was a baseball legend in St. Louis, I might stay in St. Louis.

I'm not sure what Mark Buehrle has to do with the situation.  Mark Buerhle is not Albert Pujols.

It's pretty superficial, but a Lebron led 'super team' in Miami would inevitably been compared to a Pujols led 'super team' in Miami.

I wouldn't want to live in LA.

Besides, Albert lived in Missouri for a bit as a kid. Not weird to expect him to stay in STL.

he moved to near KC when he was already in high school- it's not like he spent more than a few years there before he was drafted

Now, time for Rizzo / The lerners to give Zimmn about 7-8 years - $175-$180 MM right NOW.  After that, start thinking about Strasburg. (edit)

Im with you!  If we get Prince, extending Zimm and him may betoo much.

I thought St.  Louis was even with FL.  So when Miami pulled out, I would have thought St Louis was a done deal.  I mean they have a great fanbase where probably 95% have Pujols on their back!  Im shocked!

1.  That it was for sooo much!  Can you imagine what Prince is going to ask for now?!
2.  That it wasn't St. LOIUS.  You cant accept less and be a home boy? (Guess the Cal Ripken type player is over).

Maybe he sees homself as DHing in the future.

The dude could fix the National Debt with the money he is making! 3,000 dollars every hour for 10 years. That sounds like a good surplus system.

But he's still not quite making a dollar per second, scoff.  Peasant.

Fangraphs rips the deal, saying basically it gives the Angels a good crack at 2012, but kills them beyond that (especially in 2013 when they have a lot of holes to fill:

Keith Law looks at Pujols' likely production over the next 10 years, it too isn't pretty.

I just wish the Marlins had hamstrung themselves rather than a team out of our division.

Seriously, without steroids what player stays as good and/or gets better the later they get into their 30's?  It just doesn't happen.  This deal was stupid.

He shopped which teams he wanted to go to and ditched his previous digs!

Maybe they didn't get Lebron'd, but the argument that these athletes are just "being logical" by leaving hundreds of millions on the table so they can get a few extra million seems sort of ridiculous.

What is the use for any amount of money above about 10 mil?

Well then every free agent who ever signs with another team LeBron's their previous team.

He already won two world series' with the Cards, unlike LeBron and Cleveland, and he didn't host an hour special to decide which team he was going to.

Nothing really but I guess the main thing is to make sure your family is left with enough money. I mean, 10 mil is perfect amount but 250 mil is even better. Now when you're in the double digit  billions then there's no point... Which is why Bill Gates is the man for giving most of his money up for research and such.

Jeez get over it Cards fans! They were lucky enough to edge out the Rangers the last World Series. They're not that good.

This might be the greatest, and most delusional post, ever.  The 1960 Pirates are on the phone and would like for you to buy a clue.

To build a giant building, turn all that cash into gold coins, and then go swimming in it.

Or we could ask the Lerners.

a lot of that has to do with him and buffet being really good people- you see a lot of rich people passing it on to their kids or spending all they can (cough trump cough) too
