We get the crap that's left over. Oft-injured, ill-mannered, wants to retire, Roy Oswalt. I doubt he even signs with the Nats. Doesn't seem like the right fit for him. I'd imagine he'd want to go somewhere to win a World Series. Texas makes sense.

Who are we left with? Basically no one of consequence. We are stuck with the same thing as last year. I guess we just have to hope that Peacock turns into another JZ and that Detwiler finally puts it all together.

Gotta admit, Im shocked the Angels added both. Definitely make it more interesting to go watch games, with the stadium only 10 minutes away. Always favored them over the Dodgers. Glad they've cemented themselves ahead of them for the next 5 years, atleast.

But, this move does open up a couple other pieces. There were some talks about Ervin Santana being moved if Wilson is acquired, but I say they keep him. Weaver, Wilson, Haren, and Santana along with Pujols in the middle of the lineup looks hard to beat. But they still have Trumbo and Morales they could move now, as well as Bourjos and Abreu. Id expect Abreu to be given away and the Angels paying some of his contract.

Someone may try and get Morales at a cheaper price, as an alternative to Fielder. More risk because of the injury, but its one that could pay off pretty big.

I thought it was just that he was slow to heal. Scar tissue developed in there and he had a procedure in the middle of the season to clean it up.

I know people are always optimistic, but in the spring last year, they kept saying he was close to being b ack, and was dropping bombs in BP. It was just a problem of running the bases and stepping on the bag. It was painful moving around, so they didnt want to get him back out there until that was gone. Obviously it kept going and the second surgery to clean it up was needed.

I think people are a lot more positive and realistic about him this year. He really should be ready to go by spring this season. Hes actually a guy I wouldnt mind trying to get if we can. The upside is ridiculous, and hes in his prime.

Abreu really interests me for the Nats, especially at a discount.  He's your leadoff hitter and LF if he comes here.  Morse can chill in right until LaRoche is moved, and Werth can play CF.  LaRoche gets moved, Harper up and Morse to first.

Kendry is scary good when healthy, but I figure the Angels can hold him for a while to DH.  They still would have Wells, Hunter, Bourjos, and Trout, so they could go with Trout - Bourjos - Hunter in the OF, Pujols at 1st, Wells DH until Morales is healthy.  Trumbo does look like an extra piece.

Absolutely. And unless they get a great trade offer, I think he's such a good value they keep him and take the gamble. I dont know what his contract status is, admittedly. But he earned just under $3mill last year.

The problems with the Angels and DH, is that along with Morales, they also have last year's rookie 1b, Mark Trumbo. They've talked about Trumbo at 3b, but he's lumbering as a 1b, so I dont know about that. But they also have 5 outfielders returning in Vernon Wells, Torii Hunter, Peter Bourjos, Bobby Abreu(last years DH) and Mike Trout.

So the Angels have a lot of decisions to make. Trumbo, Morales, and Bourjos could be decent trade chips to further upgrade their team. An interesting move would be Bourjos, Jean Segura, Garrett Richards and something else for David Wright, if the Mets do decide they have to move him.

I too would be interested in Abreu. He's only got one year left, so he's a solid bridge until Harper/Hood are good to go.  The Angels would probably pay part of his salary too, just to get rid of him and clear up the lineup.

Pujols received ten years and around $255MM from the Angels, but Bob Nightengale of USA Today says the Marlins offered ten years and $275MM.  He says that with incentives and Florida's lack of a state income tax, the deal could have been worth nearly $300MM.

Pujols will remain healthier and put up better numbers where he can DH. Just factoring in his legacy considerations, he had to see LA as a better opportunity. Then he has the media market for extra cash and better chances for rings.
