Rich Harden sucks ass this year.

-Unfortunately for us he has a 2.59 ERA on the road compared to a 7.59 ERA on the road.

-Overall his ERA is 5.47.

-He is 1-3 with a 7.40 ERA over his last 4 starts.

-Cubs are 9-4 in their last 13 games against Washington.

-Cubs are awful on the road (16-25).

-Nationals are 5-2 in Lannan's last 7 starts following a team loss after the previous game.

-Nationals are 25-75 in their last 100 games following a loss.

For those going tonight - while Yahoo! Weather has 30% chance of rain today ('isolated thunderstorms possible') they are not calling for any precip tonight.

More important - if you remember what a mess Metrorail's Green Line was for the Red Sox series, with heavy ballpark traffic mingling with people commuting from work - expect more of the same tonight since these matches should draw almost in that neighbourhood...budget a bit more time getting out to the ballpark tonight (and tomorrow night).

The year the Cubs won their last World Series title, Teddy Roosevelt was president!

...no, not Teddy the Racing President...it's the real Teddy Roosevelt in his last full calendar year in office as the Real President.

...also, in that year every country in Europe except France and Switzerland was a monarchy (at least a constitutional monarchy like they have today)...and Arizona and New Mexico were still not states (they would be admitted in 1912).

Three important baseball events from 1961:

[1] The American League Washington Senators version 2.0 played their first season

[2, 3] Two important deaths to note, both on 17th July of that year (exactly 48 years ago tomorrow) - Ty Cobb...and RHP Ed Reulbach, last surviving member of the 1908 Cubs, who handed Cobb's Tigers the second of their three straight World Series defeats

these two annoying cubbie kids were sitting in front of me last year (the sunday game when Lannan pwned Ted Lilly - 7 ip shutout ball ... Pena and Nieves had back-to-back rbi singles) and kept yelling GO THERIOT!  I let them have it when Lannan K'd him and Theriot ended up going 0-for-3.

You should have taunted for the fact that the lowly Cubs organization is still the only one that has allowed a HR to Wil Nieves.
