Good Luck in Chicago Esoteric.  Was there last year and as far as big cities go it's one of the best.  Wrigley is a blast...but don't be tempted - stay true to your team.

Not a chance I'll forsake my Nats after waiting all these years for them to get here!  Washington (er...okay, Potomac.  Suburbs count, right?) will always be my 'hometown' even if I never move back.

I actually like the idea of being one of the only Nats fans at my school.  Like an exotic, multi-colored bird.

He's looking disturbingly competent at the plate lately.  By the way, did you notice Darling and Proctor CONFIRMING that unbelievable, slap-your-forehead-and-fire-'em-all story about Guzman's hitting being miserable because they made Guzman ALTER HIS BATTING STANCE?

I mean, at what point during Guzzie's excellent adventures below the Mendoza line did it occur to them "hey, this whole new stance thing just isn't working out?"

This is our last chance.  Trevor Hoffman is pretty much unhittable.

Eso - Yeah - I caught that last night about Guzzy altering his stance.  Made me wonder why you'd tinker with a .270 career hitting shortstop.  Seems you'd leave well enough alone .....

Well, he got a single.  Not a ballcrusher, but the inning continues.

At least Mookie knew a little something about fouling off pitches to stay alive....

Well, I suppose I'm a bit defeatist today (when you can't score against the Padres who wouldn't be?), but I'm pronouncing this game officially Over.

What irks me so much is that Drese gave us pretty much as good a game as we could have asked out of him.  Not perfect, but solid.  And we couldn't get ourselves over the top.

We got nuthin!

Wilkie and Wilson did their jobs by striking out on balls either in the dirt or at their ankles.  Vidro barely even ran down the line up on his chopper to second.

There is no way we generate a run against Hoffman in the 9th.  For the record, if we go to the bottom of the 9th down by one run I predict:

Church - strikeout
Castilla - one hop ground out to third (probably on first pitch)
Bennet - will have a good at bad but line out to RF.

STOP JINXING THE HITTERS
Telling a Nationals batter what he needs never works
And usually has the opposite effect

I can tolerate Wilkie's strikeouts, outrageous as they are for a leadoff man, because at least he does give us other things - he's an underrated CF, and he gets on base often enough.  But Wilson is a disgrace in the field (he missed TWO outs tonight that would have been gimmes for any semi-competent fielder) and darn close to one at the plate.  A useless acquisition that's done nothing except curb playing time for Church.
