Marlins have a payroll of around 16million, not including arbitration guys.
If they deal Nolasco- and there is no reason for them not too at this point with one year left on his sizable contract- that would slice off $11 million more.

Ha - so all those extra TV millions the teams will be getting next year, plus the income from the brand new facility they built on the taxpayer dime - all that can just go right into Loria's pocket.

This is Miami's penance for Lebron-gate a couple of years ago.

Don't fear, Marlins fans! You might get Jeff Mathis!
And this is happening according to MLBTR. Miami also sending $4 million to Toronto.

Damn. We could've given them Flores, Espinosa, and something else for all those guys. Now Stanton is gonna cost a crap ton.

So this is twice in 2012 that teams have traded MAJOR portions of their starting lineup/rotation.

Wow, the Marlins chose Mathis over Arencibia? They are insane.

Did they hire Mike Scosica as their new manager? Because that is the only explanation for why that happened.

They should just blow up Miami. Or sell the team to an owner that'll be competitive. That Marlins fan must be heading for a bridge right now.

Speaking of Marlins fans, has anyone seen Boss since this deal went down?

I really hope teams are at least calling in for Stanton. He has to know he's next. You don't trade away everyone and leave your most talented player surrounded by crap... unless he did something to piss off Loria.

Jose Altuve and Astros say hi.

Altuve's 21, the Astros have real ownership and a talented front office, and they plan to keep him for when they're successful, Ryan Zimmerman-style. The Marlins don't have a plan to succeed in the future, just to make more money.

Amanda Comak ‏@acomak

Davey on the Manager of the Year conference call says he wishes the #Marlins would send the HR sculpture to Toronto, too.

Pretty much accurate. I'm just saying that it can be done, although it has been proven that the Fish don't care enough to even try to do it right like the 'Stros.

(1) How often do so many players get traded in one deal?

(2) Don't I remember that the owner of the Marlins is the same sea-slug who destroyed baseball in Montreal and got the Florida franchise as some kind of payment?

This trade will have massive repercussions for baseball in Miami. Loria basically just killed his franchise. No one will sign there, fans won't show up, and the players that are there will have no confidence in management at all. This isn't like Oakland and Tampa playing Moneyball where players and fans know that they are trying to win despite low payrolls. This is Loria skywriting that he doesn't give a freak. If he doesn't care, what should anyone involved in the organization at any level, from the fans, to the players, to the coaches, care either? Unless he sells the team, this could mark the beginning of the end of the Marlins franchise.

That franchise should have been contracted/dissolved/moved a LONG time ago

He'll have to won't he? I guess he'll still make some money if he keeps a payroll as it is right now, so maybe not. I'm sure someone would love to come in and invest in the team. Stocked up with prospects, brand new stadium, a big star to build around.

Anyone know anything about Nolasco? Marlins fans seem to really dislike him.

RT @AndyGlockner: The Marlins got $409M in public funding (on false pretense) that will cost the city $2.4 BILLION to pay off. #jail
