Wandering through a general store in WV last weekend, found a book on how to identify wild mushrooms - a simple method for eliminating the dangerous ones by class, then positively ID the remaining ones.

Learned that this one, the "giant puffball", is quite edible when fresh.

(Image removed from quote.)

We get a crop of these all around our yard each fall, some as big as a basketball.  My wife is decidedly not committed to my project to whip up a culinary delight centered around a yard-harvested giant puffball.   :?

Anyone else mess around with wild 'shrooms?  And, I am not referring to the mind altering ones, merely the taste altering ones.

Once when I was 2.5. had my stomach pumped, lesson learned. I get some good ones from a guy with an outside stall at EM.
