I don't get the Serino release.

2-2, 3.16 ERA, 25/5 K/BB, 25.2 IP, 1.04 WHIP in GCL play.

Bixler at SS could be a Desmond backup plan :stir:
I thought the knock against Bixler was his awful glove?

Yeah but the knock on Desmond is his glove AND his bat. I guess he's getting reps.

you're flippin crazy PA.

desmond had a lot of errors last year, but was pretty solid with the bat in his first full season.  he needs to improve his OBP, yes of course.  but he had a pretty decent spring.

is he a leadoff hitter?  no.  but he's still a major league quality SS.  hell most analysts have him ranked among top 10 SS in the game.

so chill out dude.

really? i can't buy that. a .308 OBP guy with 30+ errors (20+ guaranteed) a top 10? Either SSs are a lot worse than I think or experts over value him a lot.

(but that doesnt mean i dont think he could be solid/is a guy we should just swing immediately)

first full year.  but after going 0-for-4 to start year two, let's dump him.

I said Bixler could be a backup plan. He could be. That is a 100% true statement.

Espinosa should be the primary backup plan for SS.

this.

Maybe they think they can get Bixler's bat in the line up as a utility guy.  Play a bit all over.

I really need the Nats to get Espinosa 10 games at SS, or 5 starts sometime this year so he can get SS eligibility in Fantasy.

Make it happen Nats.

Potomac Roster released, my guess on the starting lineup:

C:  Sandy Leon
1B: Cutter Dykstra*
2B: Jeff Kobernus
SS: Rick Hague
3B: Stephen Souza*
LF: JP Ramirez
CF: Eury Perez
RF: Destin Hood

SP1: Daniel Rosenbaum
SP2: Trevor Holder
SP3: Paul Demny
SP4: Marcos Frias
SP5: Alex Caldera

* Not sure which of these two will be playing 1B, but both have been horrendous at 3B (and nearly every other position) so a move to first would make sense for either

Fun team. Gotta like the rotation. Hopefully Rosenbaum and Holder aren't there long.

:az: at the outfield and SS/2B combo

Bloxom didn't make the jump to Potomac?

That's pretty screwed up. Put up an .831 OPS in Hagerstown, as their 1B. He doesn't have much else to prove at Low A.

It would seem the addition of Dykstra blocked him a bit.  I surmise that they see more talent in Souza and Dykstra (though Souza has been dogged by injuries), but also want Bloxom to play every day.  As of now he is still listed on the Suns roster, which hasn't been finalized yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is with Potomac by mid-season.  As I mentioned, I don't know who will play first, but am almost positive both Dykstra and Souza are destined to end up there.

Though I should add, the rosters for all three teams that have been released are quite thin still and more moves are certain to follow.

Where's Tanner Roark? I didn't see him in the AA/AAA rotation? Converted to reliever?

He is at AA.  He could be the 5th guy in the rotation still.  I just read that Arnesen and Mandel will both definitely be in the pen.  It would be down to Roark and Atilano for that last spot, wouldn't be surprised if Tanner got it.

Kilgore posted some updates on his blog:

-  Cole and Ray will both start the season in extended ST.  Smart move on the Nationals part, as I have seen organizations try to force HS picks into full season ball too quickly.  As Kilgore points out, each of these guys has only pitched on 5 days rest a total of three times.  Additionally, it is doubtful either of the pitchers is reading for a full season of innings.  Both could be with Low A Hagerstown this season, but probably not until late May or early June.

- Solis will stay in ST until his injury heals, but is likely to end up at Potomac once it does.
